#62- Adopt An Animal From A Local Shelter

October is adopt-a-dog month and there are plenty of local dogs looking for a home.

Every week, Commack Patch highlights one pet that is available for adoption at a local shelter, as part of our Shelter Animal of the Week series. With many shelters constantly full to capacity and countless animals left to fend for themselves outdoors, it's a weekly reminder that there are plenty of pets who could use a home.

October is the American Humane Association's Adopt-A-Dog month, so if seeing a smiling canine on our homepage every other week or so has been making you consider bringing home a furry friend, there's no better time than now.

The two animal shelters closest to Commack are the , and . Both establishments could use your help, not only by providing a home for a pet, but through their regular fundraisers and charity events.

Dogs get along with everyone and anyone; all they require is love, petting, and the occasional treat. Whether it's enjoying the last few warm days chasing a ball, or bracing for winter curled up on a couch, dogs have nothing but affection to give.
