Commack South Beats Brentwood, Remains Undefeated

Commack South boys team keeps a record of 19-0 with their most recent defeat of Brentwood's Little League team.

Commack South junior-senior little league team continued their undefeated season (19-0) by defeating Brentwood on Thursday. The game ended with a score of 11-2 and pushes Commack into the finals, which could allow them to represent New York state.

Leading 10 to zero by the top of the third, it was almost safe to assume that the game would be called in the fifth inning because of the leagues' "run rule" – which goes into effect if a team is beating another by ten runs or more.

Brentwood made this impossible, however, when they scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and one at the end of the sixth.

"Basically we've made the plays we are supposed to make all season long" said Coach Phil Russo. "We've been very strong in our pitching and in our hitting. These boys have pretty much dedicated their whole summer to this team."

The defense was able to make solid plays to retire Brentwood's batting order in quick fashion.

"These really are a great group of kids," said Russo. "You don't know what other teams are out there but I think they have a good chance of making it to the (State) finals."

Commack stands at 7-0 in the Williamsport division and 19-0 overall.

They will play again on Sunday in a final league game at Ostego Park, Dix Hills and if they win could be selected for the section six final on Monday at 7 p.m. in Centerreach.
