Commack Students Compete in Model UN Conference

Committees honored for their debating skills.

Forty students recently participated in the 40th annual Model United Nations Conference at John F. Kennedy High School in Plainview.

Facing 500 students from eight Long Island high schools, students were divided into committees where they assumed the responsibility as delegates representing an assigned country. These delegates then debated real global issues with international consequences.

Committees were broken down to represent various organizations.

"We are incredibly proud of the effort and performance exhibited by these students as they represented Commack at the conference with overwhelming success," said Model UN Advisor Lisa Porcaro.

In seven of the 11 committees, Commack students were distinguished either as "best delegate" or "honorable mention" for their work in debating issues ranging from global terrorism to waste management in developing nations.
