Dick's Sporting Goods to Host Grand Opening Friday

Sporting goods chain to take over former Pathmark shopping center on Jericho Turnpike; sports celebrities to stop by opening.

 

Dick's Sportings Goods will celebrate the grand opening of its new Commack store on Sept. 21 with a three-day weekend celebration. 

The national sporting goods chain takes over the former Pathmark shopping center, building a new store at 6070 Jericho Turnpike near the East Northport border.

Dick's Sporting Goods will kick off their grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. Friday attended by employees and local elected officials. In honor of the grand opening, the store will have extended hours on Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. 

"We look forward to opening our new Dick's Sporting Goods store in Commack and becoming part of the community," said Lauren Hobart, Dick's Sporting Goods Chief Marketing Officer, in a written statement.  "We want to serve athletes of all ages in Commack by providing the equipment they need to help them excel."

The Commack location is Dick's Sporting Goods 33rd store in New York, and its 493 store in the nation. 

Several sporting celebrities will be making appearances at sports retailer's grand opening weekend. New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, a member of Superbowl XLVI championship team, will make a special appearance on Saturday from 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. The store will hand out 300 wristbands on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 8 a.m. to fans looking to get an autograph. 

Sport fishermen will have an opportunity to meet professional bass angler Shaw Grigsby from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday. There will be a limit to one autograph per customer. 

Dick's will enter competition with two other sports merchandise chain stores in the area – Sports Authority located at 124 Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack, route: {:controller=>"listings", :action=>"show", :id=>"the-sports-authority-6"} --> and  Modell's located at
