Gay Marriage Passes; Cooper Calls It 'Great Day to be American'

Gay Suffolk Legis. Jon Cooper reacts to state Senate passing same-sex marriage bill.

New York became the sixth state to legalize gay marriage Friday night in a historic vote which some say could have national implications. The moment was deeply moving for at least one Huntington resident.

"I've always said that love makes a family and now for the first time the state legislature has validated that," said Suffolk County Legis. Jon Cooper, D-Huntington. "It's a great day to be a New Yorker and a great day to be an American."

Cooper, a gay Democratic majority leader who was elected to his sixth term in November, said after years of hard work, Friday's 33-29 vote reflects a key change in the way the American public — and particulary New Yorkers — feel about the issue of marriage equality and same sex marriage.

"This is a major step forward in the journey towards full equality, not just for New York but at the national level," Cooper said. "It's a very exciting day."

Like so many New York gay couples, Cooper and his partner traveled to Connecticut in 2009 to take their vows. The couple has raised five children — the oldest now 25. He said he heard his 16-year-old daughter yelling from the second floor and cheering when it became obvious that the vote was going to pass.

"It's important for our kids to know that our state and government values our relationship, it values our family," Cooper said.

Cooper knows a few dozen gay couples in Huntington that have been holding off marriage because they did not want to travel to other states to get married. He said that could change now, and even help the economy.

"I'd rather have several thousand weddings performed here in New York state rather than Connecticut, in Vermont or Canada," said Cooper.

Cooper predicted the vote in Albany will have national ramifications.

"I think that is going to provide a tremendous impetus for similar progress at other levels," said Cooper. "The next major battle will be at the federal level to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act — but that's another battle for another day."

New York's marriage equality bill, which grants the same legal rights to same-sex couples as heterosexuals, will take effect in 30 days. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law Friday night. New York joins Iowa, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and the District of Columbia, in legalizing gay marriage. By far the biggest state to enact such a law, with New York joining the list, the number of legally married openly gay couples in the U.S. could increase dramatically in the coming months.

"It would have been great if New York would have been the first state but being number six isn't bad," said Cooper.

Cooper said he has never been more proud to be a supporter of  Cuomo who helped get the bill through.

"Many people have worked for passage of the law," Cooper said. "But were it not for the leadership and the perserverance and courage of Gov. Cuomo to take the lead on this issue and fight for it as hard as he has, it would never have happened today."

Republicans Roy McDonald,  James Alesi and Steve Saland voted in favor of the bill.  Sen. Ruben Diaz, Sr. of the Bronx was the only Democrat who voted against it.

Barry,

So sad that you feel that way in this day and age! I suggest you start looking for another place to live as NJ "WILL" someday become a place where equality lives. Women still fight for equal pay, Blacks still fight to see past a skin color, we are all fighting for the common cause "EQUALITY"! I suggest we all come together as one team and fight this battle together as I cant imagine being a black gay woman thats like 3 strikes..... Peace, Love and eternal happiness to everyone, even those who feel they are born superior because of race, religion, sexual orientation or any other reason!!!

Ah yes, Kevin, isn't it wonderful? 14th Amendment EQUAL rights for everyone - all are EQUALLY BEFORE THE ALL CONSUMING "STATE" (read "Our Enemy the State" by Albert Knox). When in fact, at the Christian common law, God's perfect law of liberty under faith hope and charity, there IS NO STATE and no fascism, no communism, no corporatism, no predatory banking or law enforcement. Ah yes, Kevin how I long for 14th Amendment EQUAL rights were we are ALL PROSTRATE, enslaved and in bondage to the Anti-Christ state, that gives us: income taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes, sales taxes, forms, fees and codes......and if you don't obey off to jail with you, crimes for vices, crimes for victimless crimes......Michael Smith, Americanfreedomactivists@yahoogroups.com

ah Yes Kevin, I love your 14th Amendment EQUAL rights corporate mono-lith anticrist state, where if you don't get a vaccine, you will be carted off to jail OR WORSE! aAh Yes Kevin, I love your 14th Amendment EQUAL rights corporate mono-lith anticrist state, where you must get a license (and pay a tax) to do anything and everything: buy a car, drive it, have a home and live in it, get a job and try to get ahead while inflaction puts you never-endingly behind, get marreid and have children but the state tells you how to conduct that marriage and if the equal-rights state doesn't like you or your kids, that equal rights state will TAKE YOUR CHILDREN away from you and give them to someone else. Ah yes Kevin - you ARE GOOD. Welcome homos and lesbians to the equal rights state. Enjoy your freedom while it lasts, never mind at the christian common law you're free to marry each other if you want, have sex with each other in the privacy of your own home and you don't need a license to do it or pay a fee, but then you wanted this, so now you're going to get it, HAIL CESAR. I know a few gay couples who have children. They are all growing up "normal", they don't have any notions of having to be gay themselves - it isn't a choice anyway - one is born that way. Gay parents aren't indoctrinating their children or anyone else's children. The sanctity of your marriage is still as good as you make it, just as the sanctity of their marriages will be for them.
If you have religious objections, fine, that's your perogative. You don't have to be gay! You don't have to marry a gay person! You don't have to see gay marriages in your church as they will be exempt.
My God doesn't deny people who are different, their rights to be in a loving, committed relationship, with children they love and with rights to equality as we all have.

You can't sit and say you believe so strongly in marriage and then turn around and get divorced, re-married, cheat on your spouse, blah, blah and then try to preach about God saying such and such about marriage. If you want to be a real activist and fight for YOUR ways of doing things, how about all you hetero hillbillies out there actually STAY married for a while? Raise the statistic up. As the Gay population states, You are born the way you are! The last 2 letters in this Acronym have nothing to do with marriage just the act of SEX. It's HYPOCRISY.

Bisexuals, like me, are born this way. We are born to love all that we see, man or woman, black or white, young or old. It's quite simple actually, no need to be soo close-minded. Transexuals are born with two genders, so they are allowed to love either men or women just by the laws of Nature.

Wow, you are insulting all of those happily married people who have adopted whose children don't have their "own blood" running in their veins? That is so incredibly insulting to all of those people that I know that their situation is less "legitimate" than yours? How insulting. Wow. You are a birdbrain.

What the gay people are asking for is not that big of a deal. They want to be able to have a law to protect their families. They want to be able to KNOW that if they die, they can share their pensions, social security, etc...with their partner. You don't have to recognize a damn thing, if you don't like it, don't worry about it. Yes you should "live and let live" Welcome to 2011! This is the way the future of this country is headed, like it or not. No person should be a "second class" citizen. We should all have equal access to the same benefits under the law. So get off your high-horse and get with the reality of the days. Don't worry that your poor little children will have to hear about gay people and they are going to catch the gay disease. Grow up moron. It is not something that you learn, it is not something you decide, it is not something you choose. Sorry to burst your bubble. I feel sorry for all of you preaching fools out there. I GARAUNTEE that every one of you knows somebody who is gay! You may not know they are, but trust me, you know someone personally. By the sounds of your ridiculous hatred, that person likely could never let it be know to you out of fear that you would judge them and hate them (was'nt there a passage or two about those subjects in your bible). This person probably became drug addicted, or worse committed suicide, or even worse taught to be a backward hatefilled idiot like yourself. In the future there will be no room for that way of thinking.

No you are so wrong....Gays had that with civil unions whiich I agree with. This is a very big deal because wether youbelieve in God or not doesnt take away from what is true...the truth is God made the sanctity of marriage He defined it...I dont knw about you but I have read the Bible and it doesn't go well for those who mock GOD period! what may happen..can best be witnessed from the rainbow flag...that was usrped by gays as their own. That was Gods promise not to send a flood again but it ruined the rainbow for all non gays as they could not have it without being thought gay....this will also happen in marriage as will the possibility of God not blessing this Nation anymore..I already think that has happened. The downhill spiral will only get faster and tighter as we head into the end times of which I also beleive we have entered into. Don't sell your inheritance. Be true to your creator or it may not go well for you.

I'm not mocking God, I am mocking all the hypocrits and interesting (so to speak) people such as yourself. If you think we have entered the end, then don't worry, pretty soon you won't have to worry about anything, right? Let the gay couples out there have legal protection, and some happiness before we all get squished by the hand of God. So, I have a question, do you think that God is blessing small nations in Africa who have children starving to death? What did they do to deserve having God not "bless" their nation, as you put it? You are mad at gays for using the rainbow as their flag? hahhahaaa...That's actually a new one for me. Congrats to you for being the first one to surprise me with an original idea today! LOL!

Proud to be a NY resident today - looking forward to the day all states pass similar legislation.
BTW Those quoting Bible should spend more time studying - I study a lot of Bible, in the original Hebrew, and that is not what it says.
Once had a situation at work - a woman I had just hired, who had been in a 25 year committed relationship with another woman, with whom she had raised two children, went to fill out a W-4 form. Our bookkeeper asked her whether she was married or single and she had to say "single." That was the day that I realized we had to change things in our government. Why shouldn't her tax basis be the same as mine, as I am in a similar committed relationship (male/female), raising children, and had been with my spouse the same number of years. Let alone other things I took for granted because I was married - now they can have all the same rights of heterogeneous couples! Yeah NY!

The New Testament Teaches against sodomy.
Romans 1:24-32 "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."

I have no idea what any of this even means. What I gather it to say is that God says that many things, even being disobediant to the parents, boasting, and such things, along with what may or may not be reffering to homosexuality, all of these things are worthy of death? Uhhhhmmmm, ok. Oh, it also lumps in being unmerciful as being worthy of death? Hmmmm, I really don't get it. I geuss because I am "without understanding" I am to be put to death? Elaborate, please, enlighten us all with your infinite wisdom. Were you there when God spoke his word? Have you read the original biblical script? Wait, have you called God up on his cell phone lately and asked what he/she thinks of all this hatred and bigotry, unmercifulness, non-understanding, stuff. People have the right to raise their families and have the security under the law while doing so. Of course marriage SHOULD be between a man and a women in a perfect world. But people should follow the ten commandments in a perfect world too. There are alot worse things in this world then people of the same sex loving each other and trying to make a life together. Lydia Part 1: What do Americans believe -- "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all humankind is created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights ..." Today we have challenged the hypocrisy that would deny any one the basic (unalienable) rights that all taxpayers enjoy in this country. I am straight, spiritual -- and I still believe in JUSTICE for all – I believe in the “human” right of same sex couples to love and to marry! I applaud the work of senators of New York that crossed party lines with their vote, "to do the right thing." God will bless the risk you took in your political careers. We all have to take a stand as Americans, and do the right thing, so that all Americans experience liberty and justice that we declare is the culture of this country -- so that without hypocrisy, we lead the world to "accept" & “respect” democracy. Instead of America – the land of the free -- seven other countries are leading the world in the same-sex debate.

Lydia, I believe you are taking liberties with the Declaration of Independence to suit ur own agenda....go back and read an unalterated D of I..."all men are created equal (it says NOTHING about 'mankind' )..it's also a POLITICAL document stating only WHY "When in the course of human events......." probably where you made the switch...It seems to me that this gay bs is being jammed down our throats by a select few who feel they are "entitled" to "rights". This is becoming fashionable to declare such orientation. I dont give a crap...just don't start waving ur agenda in my face as if I'm screwed up because I detest the gay lifestyle. That's when I get angry. Trying to convince me that because I see thru ur actions that I am wrong, homophobic, discriminating and a gay basher..only the ones who deserve bashing...It's been my experience that when the gay community has a supposed victory they become "IN YOUR FACE !!!!! ) to the extreme...I don't care for that..and the bible quoters and their ilk? I know a bit about the Testaments...I know that God considers ur lifestyle an abomination...endit. Most of your arguments are weak and come from it's good or it's bad. The gays are going to wake up to the fact that they are tremendously out numbered and their status is still that of a very smaaaallll statistical percentage...one day the majority of ANYONE will get tired of ur quest for "equality" and "entitlements" and inform you of "exactly" how the world works...save your arguments.

Lydia Part 2: There are religious folk on “both” sides of the debate (major opponents are religious folk). I will always choose the side of the debate that promotes love, acceptance, and bottom-line -- what is humane in a civilized society. God created DIVERSITY in the entire universe. We must learn to value diversity and not condemn it because we don't understand it or because it has not been our human experience or because we believe this is what the Bible says (in my opinion what the Bible says and what the Bible teaches are two different things! Bible literalists kill people on the basis of faith claims! ) or because we believe that this is what God wants (God cannot hate what God creates!). We live in a post modern, technological, scientific society and yet we still debate and deny human rights.

Lydia Part 3: My prayer today is that the actions of the Citizens of New York will begin a wave around this country for the removal of federal and state or any governmental ban against same sex families -- remember that these families have children and youth whose self-esteem and purpose are destroyed and/or limited by the hate and injustice of denying equality to their parents/guardians -- if we really say we care about our children -- care about ALL children -- children who are same sex too! How will they reconcile in their consciousness a culture, a God, a religion, a government that says to them you don't have a right to be who you are -- you are sick -- your are sinful -- when they are neither -- they are simply different. I'd like the gay marriage opponents to revisit this page and share with us the first them they cheated on their spouses or loved their spouses less as a result of some guy out there marrying another guy. I, frankly, don't see the connection. Others insist there is one. Well let's keep this concrete. Please tell us how lesbians marrying weakened your relationship.

I'd also like to note that I know of no one who has ever stated they felt their marriage was lessened by their neighbor's divorce. Do you?

Finally, I sure do hope, for the sake of their eternal souls, that the opponents of gay marriage don't eat shrimp.

Leviticus 11:9-12
These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Forcing the lifestyle down someones throat is a mistake. If a person is gay, it will come out soon enough. No need to confuse children, or force feed propaganda to people. I think I am pretty moderate on this, but will presume I am being called a homophobe, bigot and other nice monickers.

For the AOL poll, I do not support same sex marriages. In fact, I find them nauseating!
With an increase in crime, a $14 trillion plus national debt, high unemployment, people being forclosed
on for their homes, etc., etc., I woud have considered it a "great day" if more were done for the
unemployed (been there), stopping foreclosures (almost happened), closer ties with our international
allies which seem to be in jeapordy, and countless other problems our country faces. My son is on his
fourth tour of the conflict (sometimes he cannot even call me for months at a time)--and my wife told me that she heard that military pensions were going to be cut!! God bless all of our military, past and
present, who serve our nation. It is, to me, vehement that "gay marriages" are considered "a giant
leap" towards some loatheful agenda--while my son may die in the service of his country and/or
have a lower pension if he retires from the Armed Forces!!!!!!!!!!!! It is beginning to seem to me that the
"core values" of this country are going down the proverbial tubes somewhere close to lightspeed!!!

Our forefathers are definitely turning in their graves. We were respected and dignified once upon a time, and people's sex lives were not front page issues. Change is good, or even great, but degregation of a nation, beginning at the highest office, is very sad and pathetic.

Can I now get a job in HOOTERS? for equality? can I run red lights because Id rather go on red and stop on green? Gays had equalrights with civilunions....it wasnt enough....so they now made us all change the definition of marriage and I say thats not fair. But thats what the legislature wanted..I truly think something like this should be brought to vote by the people if the majority agreed Id go along with it. But until that ever happened I will accept it but not agree with it. I will have to say congratulations to gay people. however I wish you could have made up your own version of marriage and called it....gayrriage but for now there is a new definition...how it all plays out who knows? Amen Bob Basher. People are laughing and sitting back thinking others are extreme. Marry your dog, marry your pet, marry your brother, sister, mother, father. This will all come to the table at one point as well. And the people that don't agree will have that free thinking shoved down their throats as well. This is just the beginning. It is not a matter of gay rights. It is a matter of changing the definition of marriage:
mar·riage
   [mar-ij] Show IPA
–noun
1.
a.
the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.
b.
a similar institution involving partners of the same gender: gay marriage

It may be a similar institution but it has a different name, Gay Marriage. It is not between a man and a woman. But liberals will bend it and twist it and press it and pull it, until everyone says it their way. Liberals. Not very open thinkers after all eh? They don't allow something to be, they just bend it til it's theirs.

I find it almost funny how people throw verses of the Old and New Testament around without really knowing what is written in the books. Its no longer treated as a book of worship but a reference guide for uneducated people to lay false blame. They don't follow the laws, they don't do as God commands, .. unless its convenient for them. Unless something happens in their lives they don't like, then they go into those pages from over 2,000 years ago and start twisting words until it makes sense.

For all those people out there quoting Leviticus, Corinthians, and Romans .. you need to delve a little deeper into what is said. Remember: This was originally written in Hebrew and translated to Greek. Not English. Misinterpretations of Bible verses abound!

Exactly! Open your minds and hearts people. Laws change over time, of that we have proof. History shows that laws are created by man. In "biblical" times, men had more than one wife. Prove me wrong. Men also were allowed to marry young girls, aged 12 sometimes. Again, prove me wrong. As times change, so do the laws. As culture and society progress, we begin to understand that we must embrace all of the people. I am bored now with all this. All the thumpers on here trying to throw scriptures and disgust and hatred, it's gotten pretty lame. It's the same story over and over. Get with the times! Laws change, definitions of things change, there will always be gloom and doom being fortold, get over it. I don't personally care what people want to call it or define it as, I jsut know it would be only fair and right that same-sex couples can have the same rights as others. They should be able to insure each other and such. I feel ok with my God, I don't worry that my God is going to judge/kill/punish me for being what I am, human. End of discussion. Good day.

part 2 Melissa,
..I think our solidarity with Isreal is another reason for our Blessings..and lately I wonder if our economy is still suffering because we have left isreal out to dry....The Jews are Gods chosen people...I mean cmon what are the odds they can even exist amongst all their enemies surounding them.. Isreal the size of new jersey....God said he will bless those who stand with His people and he will take away blessings if you are against His people its that simple. So as for this GAY marriage....It goes against His will. Thats the bottom line. I think the civil unions with equality shuld have been enough....but for some reason it isnt. Mabe thats because marriage is Sacred...it is special...and maybe the gays felt...civil unions are not the same.....its sort of fake..made up......that I could uderstand but I still do not like changing the definition of marriage for the sake of a few. Whats done is done....I just hope God sees it out of love and not out of the sin He calls an abomination....now I also agree sin is sin in Gods eyes and I dont know if there is a bigger sinner then me....but it's the changing of something Sacred that He HIMSELF set in motion. SO thats my fear. I do fear God. In His Soveirness what happens is up to Him and Him alone.....now we shall wait and see

They are so worried about unnecessary stuff when they should be worrying about the economy, terrorist, and everything else that would make you a true proud AMERICAN. Those who is worried more about gay marriage is the same people doing drugs, are trying to tell other people how to live, and never once supported the military. They never defended this great country unless it benefits them. They never say "Hey, my neighbors are having some problems. Let see if we can help them?". All those people really makes sick. I know a lot more straight people who do drugs and don't support the military than homosexual people. These people are ones trying to uphold their Constitutional right to be treated as equals. Are you against the Constitution being upheld? Against people fighting for the rights of other citizens? Because I think our founding fathers would want to have a word with you.

Andrew O'Donnell

For those who wish to further use the Holy Bible as propagation for homosexual hatred:

Romans: It is stated by Paul in the New Testament that homosexuality is bad. But its also stated by Paul that women are of a lower class than men and that slavery is a perfect okay thing. If you believe in the oppression of women and the usage of slaves, then okay, I'll give you this one. But only if you follow all of Paul's writings.

Corinthians: Mistranslation of a Greek word which is now called "homosexuality". In the list of "bad things", along with thieves, liars, etc is "arsenokoitēs" which is broken down to "man" and "bed" with sexual connotations .. which has been mistranslated into "homosexuality". It actually means "prostitution", specifically male. A word can't be broken down, translated, and put back together .. otherwise the word "understand" makes no sense as the definitions of "under" and "stand" have nothing to do with understanding. So Corinthians says male prostitution is bad, not homosexuality.

Levititcus: This one is against male homosexuality, not female. However, Leviticus is against a lot of things no longer seen as immoral or "abominations". Eating shellfish, like shrimp or lobster? Thats an abomination. Wearing poly-cotton blend clothes? Abomination. A child curses your name? You have every right to kill him. Slavery? By all means, its cool! And if you're a widow without a child? You can only marry his brother.

What if unfortunate is the lack of knowledge on both sides of this equation. Yes, I tend to lean to the Biblical side, but there also can be misunderstanding there.
When God created Adam and Eve, He did create them male and female. The Bible also says in the life
after that there will be no male and female. That is because we are spirits in a fleshly human form. The
Bible says that God and the Son of God are spirit's and that we were created in their image.
We cannot explain why the Bible says male and female, because I believe if He wanted to just create
one sex and allow them to be able to create other flesh humans, that He could have done it. Research
by Scholars hasn't shown "that I know of" that He gave permission to create in any other form.

Ok, before you get up tight with me, let's talk about the issue's at Sodom & Gommorah, where the males came and wanted the male "oops" Male? angels, turned over to them so they could forcibly have sex with them or abuse them, however we call it.
There also were books left out of the Grace or "New Covenant" of the Bible by the Orthodox church that
specifically spoke against Rabbi's or Priest's having sex with boy's and any male or female of having
sex with any of like "kind".
I believe the reason that these were left out, they pointed a finger directly at the mainline church of that day and the wrong doing of the Bishops and all that were in control.
Also they "Barnabas" in particular said it was wrong for fetuses to be killed in the womb or babies to be killed after birth. So apparently what is happening today was happening in the controlling body of the New Testament church, who ended up happening to be the Roman Government.
The Gospel of Barnabas was shoved out by the Orthodox "Universal" or "Catholic" Church in 300-400 AD or CE "Current Era", because it took the Church to task over these and other accepted principals that had been taught in the church and accepted as scripture.
No human can make another human accept or understand teaching unless God allows that person to understand. That person also has to desire knowing more of whom God really is. Jesus said He didn't come to judge, but to save. He said the words the Father shared through him would be the judge.

Doug Stewart

3:54 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2011

And yes, Barnabas was a disciple before Paul came along with his story about the road to Damascus and the change in his life. Peter, James and John would not accept Pauls story, but Barnabas stood up for him.
Later on Paul took over the whole show and you never heard anything about Barnabas after that, which I think was a direct reflection of Pauls actions. James, the brother of Jesus was given control of the church after Jesus and Paul was at great odds with James. It appears that James teaching was similar to Jesus as was Barnabas' teaching, so go figure, who was covering up what ? For control of the church, thats what !!!!!!!, by conceivably hiding the truth from the believer's as the Bible says. Folks that happened immediately after the spirit Son of God left the human form of Jesus and went back to the Father, so the
spirit Son of God could send the spirit Comforter, who was to and does teach mankind the truth, not the
truth necessarily taught by the church.

Sorry friend, but I didn't say you had to believe anything the Bible says and I am curious who the God is you are thanking. We all have to be careful when we call good evil or evil good. I didn't write it. In case you missed it, I didn't say you would be judged by me, I said the Bible specifically states that Jesus, Himself, said He didn't come to judge the world, but to save the world and that mankind would be judged by the words His Father gave Him.Those truth's will judge all mankind, including me and you. If you don't believe that, that is your choice. Therefore He was saying mankind would have no excuse, including me, for not listening to those truths. You absolutely have your own choice's to make. By the way, you have no idea apparently what a bigot is from my standpoint. Not only did my oldest daughter date a black kid that we were good friends with, but my youngest daughter is married is married to a "fullblood Phillipino" if I can use that term. My 2 wonderful Phillipino grandsons are jokingly referred to as Halopino's by my son-in-law, as the white people
are referred to as Hali's. I have a 1st cousin I grew up with that is Gay, and yes his life style is not for me, but I haven't judged him for that and we are friends. My son is named after a Native American whose grandfather was chief of the Northern Cheyenne's and yes I am conservative, but I get the feeling I may be more open to other peoples opinion's than you are.

there will be wolves in sheep clothing and it specifically talked about biblical false teachers. If you haven't, please read my response back to Tom B. after calling me a bigot.
It may not help your opinion of me, but if that is your choice to make, so be it. I know who I believe
in. I encourage any and all, if they are interested in finding biblical truth, to seek and study in a
quality way, not quantity. This is only if a person is interested in finding a revelation of
truth that is available for each of us.
I have believed for many years that when the Bible says "the truth will set you free", that it may
set a person free from mis-truth's that the "Church" has taught for 2000 years.
The Bible says the Spirit of Truth will come and bring all things "that Jesus taught" to our remembrance and teach us the other truths we need to know. "NOT THE THINGS TAUGHT BY ANY INDIVIDUAL CHURCH OR MINISTER OR PERSON. The Bible encourages discussion and says that
LOVING one another is the greatest commandment.

I think people may be more accepting of gay civil union recognition, but only if states establish and follow the same common law guidelines as would be used for opposite sex unions. States should have a minimum time – maybe 5 years - that a couple must live together as married for them to be recognized as legally married. Numerous U.S. and international studies show that, on average, same sex partners stay together for only 1½ to 2 years. This fact might greatly reduce the squawking from the opposing side..

As a pastor my coments are not going to probably line up with some people, but I also feel that it's my responsability to let people know the truth and don't allow them to be mislead. In the Pledge of Allegiance there is one part that says "One nation under God", our currency says "In God We Trust." At the same time as we have God on our currency and on the Pledge of Alligiance we don't have him in our minds when we choose to live the life style we want to live. A gay life style is wrong period God destoyed Sadom and Gamora because of this. He told Adam and Eve to be fruitfull and multiply. He created a man's body to work in conjuction with a woman's body. So that it is a good painless experience when they are intimate with each other. We also tend to forget that there is one day that none of us will be able to hide or run from wether we are Christians or not and that is judgement day, on that day everyone that has ever walked on the face of this earth WILL BE JUDGED. Those that perform same sex marriages will be judged, they wont be able to say they didn't know because if they are ordained and went to bible college they had to learn the same things I did, unless they skipped some chapters in the bible. I will not pass judgement on people is not my job. But according to God's word, which is what I follow. There are people heading on a highway to hell. It's sad because I'm sure some of these people are good people but they are following a lie.

"In God We Trust" was adopted as the official motto of the United States in 1956. The phrase has appeared on U.S. coins since 1864 and on paper currency since 1957. On July 11, 1954, just one month after the phrase "under God" was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance, which as originally written mentioned neither the US flag or under God, the U.S. Congress enacted Public Law 84-140, which required the motto on all coins and currency. In 1956, the phrase was legally adopted as the United States' national motto. This was due to the Red Scare and certainly not because the Founding Fathers wanted it to be part of anything associated with the government. The US was able to survive nicely – we nearly eradicated the Natives, kept blacks in slavery for 200 years, killed 700,000 of each other because one section demanded their freedom to deny an entire race their freedom and their right to live off those slaves’ work, wiped out dozens of species of wild animals and broke every treaty we signed with almost everybody we signed one with.

Evidently the god who wiped out entire cities because of the actions of a few, drowned every living creature including animals, babies, children, and reverends because of a reason he never did specify except to say he’d never do that again – “Sorry I flared”, and had his people slaughter other tribes down to their animals, fetuses, pets and grass on a regular basis. Finally by the mid 50s he must have declared us to be fully as wicked and unreasonable as he was (forgot to mention what Job’s reward was for being the most God fearing man in the land and the reason all snakes must wriggle on their bellies – because Satan had disguised himself in a snake suit to talk Eve, who has the sense of right and wrong of a baby but still was supposed to understand how wrong it was to eat that apple, into eating that apple.)
We will eventually be judged by that god? I would suggest not wearing blended fabrics that day, Reverend. And you may say you’re not judging anybody but your entire post judged gays and gay marriage. My dad was a minister so I know the shtick, you say I’m not doing this or that, then do it and for some reason it’s what you say first that counts. He believed it, you believe it, but nobody else does.
And who cares what it says on money anyway? Like that’s some kind of proof of – what? That Christians will use any excuse to justify their hatred of people?

Dear Willie, I, too am a pastor and do not wish to give your erroneous opinions more attention than they deserve. There are at least two commentaries on the story of Sodom and Gomorrah (pls check your spelling), one, I believe, is in Ezekiel and the other came out of Jesus' mouth. The reason that place may have been destroyed is inhospitality. The story has nothing to do with homosexuality, but does use heterosexuals as inhabitants of the town who wish to rape the visitors. The other 7 passages commonly abused and recited as condemning homosexuals have nothing to do with homosexuality as we know it. Shall I go on?
But this is not the reason for this article. We, in NY, are fortunate that a majority of our State Senators saw fit to stand up for civil rights. We ought be celebrating. However, we, on Long Island, should be humiliated that not a single representative supported marriage equality and the rights of their glbt constituents. Some of these people have been office far too long, are far too out of touch, and the time is approaching to replace them with people like Jon Cooper.

Michael, I'd love to know where you got those statistics from the "numerous U.S. and international studies". Jon Cooper and his partner have been together for over 30 years, and I personally know another gay couple that's been together for over 40 years. I also know a straight couple that got divorced after being married less than 6 months.

Anyway, civil union is obviously not the same as civil marriage. I don't know whether you're married, but if you are, would you be equally satisfied with being "civil unionized"? I doubt it.

It is a little crazy that if you diasgree with same sex marriaged you are immediately labeled as "homophobic" or a religious zealot. I happen to be agnositic & not homophobic, but consider myself to be a traditionalist. I do not support people having children out of wedlock or gay marriage. That said- I have nothing personally against single mothers or gay people & would never march against their rights. I just can't understand why we all keep have our opinions. I'm glad to have been born in the late 60's in an era where everyone just had children because they could & marriage consisted of man & woman. I'm all for legal unions- but in my personal opinion marriage traditionally has been a man & a woman & that's how I wish it would remain. Just my opinion.

Kara, as a "traditionalist," what is your position on women having the vote? What do you think of handicapped parking spaces? Do you think we should have freed the slaves? Slavery-- a 250 year tradition in North America-- does that have merit just because its something we did for a long time?

We have had a lot of bad traditions. One of our best traditions is EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW. We have taken a step closer to achieving that noble goal.

It sure beats being anal retentive, bible thumping Conserva-Toads. The book they cherish is a collection of stories that were thrown together by a cleric from a series of stories. We will never know the extent of the number of books that were available to choose from or if the translations are accurate. Most churches rely on manmade doctrines and not the true words of any God they choose to worship. Organized religion has done more to foster holy wars, to keep mankind uninformed, and to subjugate women than any other organization in history.

Just my two cents, but being straight and close to being a senior citizen, I think this is a great thing. Everybody should be equal under the law and allowed to live their lives as their conscience and body demands. Discriminaton against anyone for any reason is evil. If people would mind their own business, quit spouting quotes from a book that advocates slavery, mass murder, death for almost every "infraction" and treat people like you want to be treated, we wouldn't need to wait centuries for those who aren't like "us" to get the rights and equal treatment they deserve from birth.
Congratulations, New York. If the fire and brimstone hasn't hit by now, I think you're home free. (Joke, for those of you who believe in such things.) Hope this does spark a nationwise reevaluation of this. Be one more act of discrimination we can cross off the list.

Sorry, Anthony/Eve. I don't find this either a sad or awful day for any of humanity, let alone 'ALL'. Geez, don't you find your rhetoric a wee bit over the top, here? All this yelling in all caps with all these exclamation points. One would think you were out of control? Surely that's not the impression you'd like to give? As far as I'm concerned - as someone who's straight and married for many years - I found myself reacting positively and smiling happily at the news. It meant that my good friend and my gay neighbour could finally marry legally, and be recognized as life partner/beneficiary/co-owner of the home they live in, the person to make end-of-life, funeral arrangements, etc....so many other civil ramifications none of which has the slightest effect on my life or finances. I have no idea why some here keep insisting it does? I know my neighbour (who babysits my many pets when I'm away), will be a lot happier, which makes me happier.

As far as your plea to your god to take you away from all this 'filth'? I'm quite with you on that, actually. Those of us not on the same page as you and who are actually very proud of New York for proving to be a democratic and progressive state in recognizing ALL of its citizens equally - will now have a lot more room and resources to share if those of you who think alike up and disappear in the rapture (that IS what you're talking about, right?) I'm quite sure I won't be attending. So you go ahead...and have a nice trip. :)

Gov. Andrew Cuomo OUT OF OFFICE!

Jerry Hannon

10:32 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2011

First, a special tip of the hat to fellow Irish American William Cahill, who has a few years on me.

As some other getting-on-in-years fathers (I have three kids) and grandfathers (I have one granddaughter) have said, this is all about human rights, and many of us have seen homosexual couples who have been wonderfiul parents, indeed better than some of our straight friends. My wife of twenty-five years agrees.

This is also a matter of you not forcing your religion on me --nor me forcing my religion on you -- and it is a matter of respecting differences in beliefs and opinions.

Now, if everyone who is criticizing the ability of homosexuals to now marry in NY -- whether in civil marriages, or in religious marriages for those religions which will permit them (as they will NOT be forced) -- also follows every prescription and proscription in the Bible, including not eating shellfish, or pork, or cutting our beards, or wearing clothing of mixed fibers, and on and on and on, I will disagree with them, but I will at least respect them for consistency.

Or, as Jesus said, Let those without sin cast the first stone.

Rick Byers

10:58 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2011

Jerry, I agree with you 100%. This IS all about human rights, and equality under the law. If anybody is so uptight that they want to deny equal rights to loving couples simply because they're gay or lesbian, they seriously need to get a life. We've got enough bigotry and hatred in this world without adding to it. And by the way, this bill passed the State Legislature in a democratic vote with bipartisan support. If you don't like living in a democratic society, you can move to China, Cuba, North Korea and lots of other nice totalitarian states. Don't let the screen door slam your rear end on the way out!

abel

Me too, Rick! I find it exceedingly ironic when Bible thumpers actually quote other 'abominations' such as 'fornication, adultery, thievery, covetousness, eating shellfish' and on and on - 99% of which 'sins' these people likely commit every day --yet still use some vague reference of men not being with other men to back their discrimination against gay people. They further claim this to be 'god's word'. I've been asking for umpteen years and no one has so far shown me where any god himself (or herself) ;) wrote a single word. Their bible is purely a series of stories compiled by individuals, translated from the Hebrew and revised many times over. Most people I know have absolutely no clue whatsoever what much of the writing actually means. They need to have it 'explained' to them by their ministers. These modern day religious nuts who think all people are supposed to live by what THEY believe in (no thanks!) should feel free to practice their religion. Trouble is they insist on imposing their faith on the rest of us because they can't fathom anyone believing otherwise. The conservative right-wing element of the republican party has done a heckuva job convincing them this is freedom of speech? Such hypocrisy! So sad when they finally wake up to realize that we actually do live in a Democratic society and the founding fathers did NOT create America as a christian nation, but one where there is freedom of and FROM religion.
Abel...get a real life/mind your own business.

As far as 'knowing' about your lord and god - I probably have more practical catechism schooling than you ever will since I was actually raised (and indoctrinated) in a family of believers. What a sad day for America. Homosexuality is a perversion and a sickness of the mind and body. Who cares about the children right? These sickos are already polluting the public schools by SHOVING and telling kindergarteners that it is okay for a man to be with a man or a woman to be with a woman. This is SICK!. They are fighting for their right to sodomize each other. That is NOT LOVE BUT SICKNESS AND LUST. These homosexuals try to poison everyone. They want everyone to be sick and abnormal just like them. There was a lesbian that was hitting on my sister when she was younger. She never responded to that sicko. I too experienced that. Bisexual girls hitting on me. I am not a homo and they try to poison me, my sister, and other normal people with their sicknesses. What will a homosexual man tell a child that he has adopted when the child asks "Why do I have 2 daddys. Why don't I have a daddy and a mommy." The homo will tell the child that it is NORMAL and OKAY for 2 MEN TO BE WITH EACH OTHER AND SLEEP WITH EACH OTHER AND it is OKAY AND NORMAL. Only a small amount of people have any decency in this country. A Lot of People are losing their minds into their sicknesses

Actually, Duyne....most gay people I know don't discuss their sex lives at all, but keep it to themselves and in their bedrooms. Most of the people I've seen who flaunt their sexuality openly are decidedly heterosexual for that matter. But why use facts when you can Scream your fears here? ;) You seem to know a whole lot more about what goes on in a gay person's bedroom than most. Why is it your business? Why do you care? I sure don't, just as I don't give a crap what you do in yours. If more people minded their own business and kept their noses out of other people's, this world would be a heckuva lot nicer place to live in. You are yelling and carrying on about how DISGUSTED!! you are. Perhaps if you kept your focus on your own life and IN your own bedroom and on your own sex life you wouldn't have to be so disgusted. So homosexuals claim that everyone that are against homosexual marriages have an extreme fear of homosexuals and have a mental disorder? Look at how ridiculous their claims are. They are trying to flip the tables on the normal people. So basically what they are saying is Let us infest the Public Schools of the Children which they are already doing and teach them that Homosexuality is okay and Normal, Let us infest the Movies the TV and let us proudly prance around and show our gayness and shove it down your throats wether you like it or not (Just watch HANGOVER 2, GLEE, MODERN FAMILY, SCHOOL OF ROCK, SKYLINE, etc). Let us REDEFINE marriage in Society and make it FILTHY. The definition in the dictionary will now say that marriage is also for a MAN & a MAN or a WOMAN & a WOMAN. While I have no beef if a man and a woman want to marry, my primary concern is the radical element of the GL agenda wants to pollute, and I mean pollute the schools where young children will be confused. 2 incidents come to mind in Huntington. In 2006, there was a substitute teacher at HHS who was a transvestite. From what I heard, it turned into quite the distraction. Someone wanted to make a point, a point at the expense of the kids. Groups of teenagers would gawk through the window to see the "drag queen". Politically motivated? I would say so.

#2. Huntington Intermediate. A colleague of mine yanked his 2 boys out of the school after their teacher wanted to bring in a lesbian who told them of her "persecution". Now while I have no doubt the lesbian might have been persecuted against, if you want to talk about persecution, bring in someone who is African American, Hispanic, or believe it or not, the Irish had a rough time here, Italians too! Japanese were locked up in camps during WW2. Why puzzle a 12 year old and bring in a lesbian? Politically calculated? I would say so.

On my mother's side of the family there is a long history of military service dating before the Civil War in America. Some of my ancestors probably killed their
"next few generations" cousins, etc., during their duty to repel hostile actions by Native Americans.
On my father's side of the family (German ancestry), my paternal grandmother was the wife of a
chief (she was mixed Cherokee/Seminole). My paternal grandmother was a "five star mother" in World War II--five sons went to war, five sons came home in good health and decorated.
Now--I pose the question--shall I be angry that my Native American ancestors were possibly killed by members of my own family? Shall I be angry that distant German cousins were killed by my paternal
U. S. Army uncles and my (late for father and uncles)? Absolutely not on both counts!!!!!
Now: lets us examine my Native American heritage. I have been to Native American reservations where the residents were very meek to the point of humility. (See next post.....

I speak German as one of my languages. Some of the Germans were quite saddened that they had been forced to join the Hitler Youth and the Wehrmacht army (and in some cases the nazi party) to keep their families from being killed or other harsh sanctions imposed.
All right: 1. The Native American Nations (please don't throw the casinos arguement) have been, in too many instances, regarded as "second class citizens" in my opinion. 2. The Native American wars and World War II have ended. 3. Although there are many well-to-do German citizens in our country, some still feel like they are being sanctioned for the actions committed by the Axis powers during
World War II. 4. Are the foregoing points indicitative of fairness towards racial/ethnic equality? IMHO
a resounding NO! When are the people of our United States "wake up" to social, ethnic, economic
(14% unemployment in the metropolitan city where I reside), and begin agendas for solving these issues?? In my state, several schools have closed for lack of funds!!! Some were especially geared
towards improvement of minorities (e. g., blacks, Latinos, and others). What would be a "great day" to me is seeing municipal, county, state, etc., agencies promoting education for youth and getting more young people grants or the like for college, technical schools, etc.
Also, what is next? A governmental bill which would allow brother-sister marriages (I am an only
child)? More expense, less education? Long list!!!

Yer darn tootin, pardner; I can't wait to get back to the values of the 18th Century.

Let's get rid of that Roosevelt Social Security, and that Eisenhower Interstate Highway System, and that Johnson Medicare, and that Obama Affordable Health Care Act.

Let's get back to American Revolution values, when men were men, and women were...oh, yeah, and blacks were...oh yeah, and life spans (unless you were really rich) were...oh yeah, and you couldn't be a Catholic in some places, and you couldn't be an Anglican in other places, and you couldn't be a Jew in other places....hmmmm.

Hey Jerry, stop with the extremes. And Obama care, albeit unconstitutional is the reason (I believe) the economy is sputtering. Based on what you may ask? Group healthcare preiums to corporations have renewed at a 20% increase. And younare going to say " greedy corporation". Nope, the insurance companies are pricing in the uncertainiry of Obamacare. Corporations are sitting on piles of cash, but will not hire anyone becausenof the uncertainty of what Obamacare will mean to them. So while Pelosi, Reissue and Obama are granting exceptions to all of the unions and political donors in their backyards, the American people are suffering with unemployment around 10%, Obama and other extremists can grin that they have their free healthcare.

"A great day to be an American." Let's see--ah, yes--a few ideas arise in my thoughts.
1. A day when the sons (and daughters) of former slaves and former slave owners stand arm in arm
(or arms around each others necks) on the red hills of Georgia (and/or any other state and/or "pick your
country.") (Does the name Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ring a bell? I did add/paraphrase--I don't think he would mind if he were still alive.)
2. A day when unemployment in the United States approaches 0% of people actively seeking work.
In undergraduate college economics, "full employment" was 3% of people actively seeking work. I long
for the day when the 0% approaches for "full employment"--this would mean that people who wished to do so would be sponsored for training, if they were unable to afford it or needed to be retrained, with
income on a sliding scale basis for grants/scholarships/loans IF they were highly qualified in one area
but lost their job--too many grants/loans are based on annual household income--doesn't matter if one just lost his/her job--what is wrong with this type of grant funding?

3. When the United States of America (with respect to my/our Mexican friends since their country is aptly named "Los Estados Unidos de Mexico"--The United States of Mexico) regains some sort of "core values" which CANNOT be bought or taken away by the (almost) oligarchical governmental policies
only now truly beginning to be as open and rampant as they are!! (See next...)

BobRSA

8:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2011

By the way--this country is a republic, not a democracy (in the truest senses of the words.) Democracy is derived from the Greek "demos" (the people) and "kratia" (to rule). This works in, perhaps small societies when one side can outshout, oughtfight, etc., the other so some piece of legislation, etc., would become law.
On the other hand, the republic is derived from the Latin "res" (thing, declension) and "publica" (the public thing (the implied since Latin had no indefinite articles.)) Our country is therefore an elected
republic by definition (although see my previous post on oligarchy!)

4. When citizens of the United States of America are REALLY not discriminated against because of
handicap, race, ethnicity, etc. I live in Florida and have been told by many Latinos that there exists,
even in this state, prejudice and hatred towards Latinos--the type of hard-working families and/or
their children of whom anyone would be proud. Heads up! Except for my Native American ancestors,
the Spanish settled Florida (as well as other states)--news flash people!! Latinos are one of the groups which
will probably pass "white, not of Hispanic origin" as the majority of ethinc groups probably before the
year 2050!! Oh, and the United States of America is the ONLY power nation which does not have
its school students speak/read/write more than one language!

These are a few things I would like people to ponder.

Jerry Hannon

10:06 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2011

Now we've heard everything. According to our friend, the persistent high unemployment rate is due to concerns about the Affordable Care Act. I guess some people will simply not let the facts interfere with their radical ideology.

This recession, now nearly four years old, started in the last 18 months of the Bush administration and it is continuing in the Obama administration.

The recession followed a series of corporate scandals, bankruptcies and frauds in the late 1990's and early 2000's, and the lunacy reached its peak due to unmitigated greed and collective corporate stupidity (with the exception of Jamie Dimon) between 2005 through 2007, after which we began our deep recession.

Having been trained for a career of risk mitigation and credit analysis, it is a straightforward fact that many companies have learned something from their mistakes, but they are now gun-shy.

They are trying to assure themselves that the recession is over before re-hiring, lest they end up with more permanent employees whom they would only end up laying off, if it turns down again.

Are manufacturers being too cautious in their refusal to step up hiring? I think so, but I understand their caution.

Are banks too cautious in lending standards now? I think so, but I also understand their caution; however, it is more critical for the banks to expand credit availability, since part of the problem for manufacturers and other parts of the US economy is tight credit.

David Livingston

10:26 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2011

Jerry, whether you are privy to small business owners is irrelevant. 20% increase in healthcare preiums plus cash rich corporate America refusing to hire because of the mystery of Obamacare has been a legitimate hypothesis by Crain's and The Wall Street Journal. Logically, if you had a 20% increase in an expensive that may increase even higher, would you beh apprehensive to hire new people? Except if you are in Harry Reid's or Nancy Pelosi district.

Now, thanks to Coumo, Frank and Dodd lowering the lending standards at Freddie and Fannie, the walls came down. NAFTA and the abolition of Glass-Stegal was the cornerstone of the collapse. Banks were fined for not lending to those applocants the banks thought would be not be a prudent risk to their respective institutions.

Jerry Hannon

11:08 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2011

While I like the Crain's organization, and subscribed to their Automotive News magazine for fifteen years, I never found the Crains' group good on analysis, whether Cain's Business (various editions) or Automotive News or the other Crain publications. They were good at coming up with some esoteric information, often useful, but not in having a comprehensive understanding.

As to the WSJ, well, people should always look upon any Murdoch publication with some rather large grains of salt. They have some good reporters, but the editorial pages are a cesspool, and you also have to wonder how much independence they allow their reporters.

Economists are all over the map on these issues, but few very independent and non-ideological economists make the kinds of aspersions that you have been making. These are primarily ideological contentions, and are purpose-driven.

Also, while I am no great fan of NAFTA, I don't think it had much to do with our recession; to make that contention you would have to prove that there were also no US gains due to NAFTA. These were not the same effects on all industries.

As to Glass-Stegall, the problem was not the loosening of the restrictionss of that law from the 30's; it was the subsequent lack of regulatory rigor, combined with our Gordon Gekko greed-driven economy that now has pay at the top ranks (and this includes the big traders who make huge bonuses) hundreds of times greater than pay in the bottom ranks.

10:12 am on Monday, June 27, 2011

For Cathy, while I accept the fact that you are a non-believer, and have every right to be so, it is unfortunate that you have acted in such an ungracious and condescending way towards anyone who is a believer, regardless of the specifics of their beliefs.

There were some excellent earlier posts pointing out the problems with translation of scriptures from their original texts, and the folly of taking these semi-authoritative translations quite literally.

We also see people using scriptures like a menu, selecting texts which suit their prejudices or preferences.

And it goes beyond that to the point of people focusing upon the writings of Paul, not an original disciple of Jesus, and treating his writings as if they were the words of Jesus.

So there are all manner of distortions of Christianity, but for you to paint such a broad brush, and to describe the resultant scriptures as coming from a "make believe man in the sky," is beyond demeaning and unnecessary.

My belief is that Christian and Jewish Scripture was inspired by God, but written by very fallible men. And, to know how we should all act in life, we need to look at the words and life of Jesus, much more than any ancillary texts or epistles. They may or may not reflect "what would Jesus do?".

I believe that Jesus welcomes into the Kingdom all loving people, husbands and wives, husbands and husbands, wives and wives, and single people too, and that the standards are a monogamous loving relationship.

The chosen people of God. The Palestinians are the Phillisitines in the bible. The same one that has been warring with Israel for Centuries. Egypt's Pyramids and Super Structures were built by Israelis when they were under Egyptian Slavery in which they were delivered by Moses with the direction and command of the God that you don't believe in. Why do you think there is so much hate towards Israel in the Middle East. Why is it that Isreal's enemy want to eliminate them off the face of the Earth? Beacause they are God's chosen people. Do know of haunted buildings. What do you think is haunting those buildings? Evil Spirits aka Demons. And if a human being does enough evil the Demon can enter your body and once it is in. It will be very difficult for you to get it out. The devil exist and he wants you to be an athiest. Then he can take you into hell with him for Not believing in the God that created you and for being an Athiest. Athiesm, Homosexuality, Adultery, Fornication, Theivery, etc are all against god. I hope that god enters your heart and takes you out of darkness. God loves you

I have had personal experiences with God. My son injured his eye and retained a Cut in his eyeball . I was so worried when it happened. We were concerned that he could lose his eye. We scheduled for him to go to the doctor the following day. I prayed the Holy Rosary and asked Mother Mary to pray in behalf of our son to god. I prayed to Lord Jesus and God for help and if he would in his will to heal our Son's Eye. My prayer was answered. The following day our son's cut in the eye miraculously SEALED. Within 3 days the cut was completely gone. The Satan and Evil Spirits/Devils/Demons exist. I know a person that had dealt with Demon Possession. It is real and it will scare the hell out of you if you ever deal with it or witness it happen to someone. I assure you - you will call out to God for help because no one will be able to save you but Lord Jesus Christ and God. Watch the lord of the rings. The character "Smeagle" there was something that was possessing him it showed another Smeagle but a very evil Smeagle (The 2nd smeagle shows the Demon in his form) that would continousely suggest evil things and then take over him once he himself has fallen into his own evilness. Also the part in the movie Harry Potter & the Order of Phoenix when Voldemort Entered his body in the end of the movie. That is exactly how demonic possession works.

I think that my previous posts may reflect some of my ideas of what I think would be "A Great Day to be

"bible thumping?" IF so, one would have a lot to learn and rethink his/her position(s) on issues of social importance.
On a personal note, I believe what is contained in The Holy Scriptures (The Bible). I took courses in Hebrew and Greek--I can read the Holy Scriptures in the source languages. I am also a medical professional: therefore I have taken science courses on the graduate and professional school level. I ONLY post this because some individuals on other boards have denigrated those of a religious persuasion to be uneducated, stupid, and worse.
I posted some observations attributed to Herodotus (the Greek historian, called "The Father of History),
Thucydides (Greek historian), and Publius (or Gaius) Cornelius Tacitus regarding homosexuality.
I guess the scholars who translated these works were all wrong--right? NOT!!! As in a prior post, I guess
that freedom of speech (from secular sources) is a right in this country under our constitution--unless it
is politically incorrect to someone's agenda!! (My posts referencing the above writers were deleted/yanked, or whatever.) see next post.....

I am a Christian, believing in the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. I have this
right. If it were not a right, I would still believe it. There will come a day when all will see God the
Father (confer the Book of Revelations, or for my Roman Catholic Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The
Apocalypse.) I am a sinner saved by the Grace of Christ. If someone does not believe this, that is his/her choice. However, after death, one may wish to have believed.
I leave with Paschal's wager: If there is no God or Holy Trinity and I am right, then the believer has
nothing to gain after death and I have nothing to lose. However, if the belief in the Saving Grace of
Christ and the belief in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is correct, then the believer has everything to gain after death, and I have everything to lose.
I sin every day in some manner, but I pray that Christ will show me the Way to avoid the pitfalls of my sins so I may not commit the same ones again.
One Great Day for me was when His Holiness Pope John Paul II declared that all Christians believing in
the saving Grace of Christ, The Holy Trinity, and other essential doctrines of the Christian Faith are
ALL Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus--it was his hope that those who are not yet Roman Catholic
would join The True Church (what else could His Holiness say?) :)
I think homosexual marriage is wrong. This is my right, secular, religious, or otherwise.

@Basher: Civil unions do not enjoy the same rights and privileges as marriage. For one, civil unions are only recognized within the state they were set up. You cannot move from state to state and enjoy the civil union rights of another state. It’s as if the union does not exist. Marriage is recognized state to state. Second, civil unions are not recognized by the federal government, so same sex couples cannot apply for joint tax returns or be eligible for tax breaks or protections enjoyed by heterosexual married couples. In 1997, the federal General Accounting Office released a list of 1,049 benefits and protections available to heterosexual married couples. Most of these are not available to civil unions or same sex couples where marriage is legal in their state. The federal Defense of Marriage Act allows each state to deny any marriage-like relationship between same sex couples, which may have been recognized in another state. This includes civil unions.

Cathy Ribando

12:14 pm on Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Cont’d…The list 1,049 privileges include: joint parental rights of children, joint adoption, status of “next of kin” for hospital visits and medical decisions, rights of decision on disposal of loved ones remains, immigration and residency for partners from other countries, domestic violence protection orders, judicial protections and immunity, automatic inheritance in the absence of a will, spousal veterans benefits, social security, Medicare, joint filing of tax returns, wrongful death benefit of surviving spouse and children, bereavement or sick leave for care of partner or children, child support, joint insurance plans, tax credits (i.e. child tax credit), estate and gift tax benefits, welfare and public assistance, joint housing for elderly.
These are just a few of the 1K+ privileges that heterosexual married persons enjoy for a marriage license usually obtained for less than $100.

If religion has nothing to do with marriage then why has the homosexuals INFILTRATED the Episcopal Church? Episcopalians are christians and now the New Bishop is a Gay Man and a Lesbian Woman. Both have homosexual partners. Because of this takeover The episcopal church broke into 2 parts the ones that are Gays and the 1 that are not blinded by the sickness and do not support gay marriages. Good for the ones who continue to hold up the light. Yeah sure - gays don't want to marry in the church. Sure they don't. They have already started performing gay marriages in the Episcopal Churches. The main issue here is that homosexuals want acceptance. They want society to see them as being normal when they ARE NOT. Like what I have said time and time again. DO NOT BE DECIEVED. Follow the lord Jesus Christ then you will be with him in the end. It is already written - that in the end of days the world will be at its lowest point. There will be no 1 you can trust. The christians will endure persecution and there will be only a very small amount of christians left fighting in the world. All you supporters of this very disgusting sickness-Satan's waiting for you. You know you lust on the straight people. I hope that god will make you feel inside that you are doing wrong. You choose to be in Satan's Side. I choose God and Lord Jesus Christ above all

Duyne, by Bigot I mean : a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance. Allow me to use the word in a sentence: "Duyne, a bigot, hates all gays and lesbians."

Aha - David Klopman in his OWN WORDS "I'm here to share my life with who I choose and to love who I want to love. Everyone has that right." Seems that Mr Klopman is talking just like the homosexuals you see in the rallies on tv and newspapers. Homosexual PRETENDING to be a Heterosexual. Sad

Keep talking Duyne. You are very intellectual! ROFL.
I'm pretty sure Heterosexuals choose who to share their lives with and who to love. Didnt you?

Did I burst your bubble of LIES and the Charade you are doing. You can be an actor. You seem to like to pretend to be someone/something your an not. You see people. Look at how deceitful they are. You found me out Duyne. Now if you can just admit you're pretending to be a human being we can call it even!
