PHOTOS: Commack Firefighters Win Annual Chuck Varese Extraction Tournament
Commack Fire Department teams takes first and second in annual firefighter tournament.
teams 1 and 2 took top honors in the fifth annual Churck Varese Extraction Tournament hosted by the Northport Fire Department.
Twenty-three teams from 13 Town of Huntington fire departments, as well as teams from North Bellmore, West Babylon, Garden City Park, and Kings Park competed in the firefighters rescue tournament held at the training grounds in Steers Pit last month.
Each team was judged on the amount of time it took to perform the extrication, the handling of equipment and the safety procedures they followed. After the tournament ended, the vehicles were shredded and recycled at Gershow Recycling’s facility. Commack Fire Department Teams 1 and 2 took first and second place, North Bellmore took third.

Proceeds from the tournament went to benefit the Suffolk County Burn Center.
