Restaurant Review: Perfecto Mundo Brings New Latin Flavors to the Table
With French-inspired precision and Latin-inspired intensity, Chef Steven Del Lima brings a whole new idea for dining out to Commack.
Overview: Perfecto Mundo is a brand-new restaurant in Commack and in the past four weeks it has become known for it's Latin-fusion cuisine, which takes Latin food and gives it a French-inspired feel, according to Executive Chef, Steven Del Lima.
Decor: Paneled mahogany walls and bright blues, yellows and reds make the interior of this restaurant more like a lounge in SoHo than a restaurant in Commack. A far cry from the traditional big box, fast food restaurants residents are used to, Perfecto Mundo offers an oasis off Jericho Turnpike.
The Drinks: Their signature cocktail list features mojitos, margaritas and Perfecto's speciality sangria, all ranging from $8-10 per glass. The Sangria, red and white, is $18 for a pitcher.
Appetizers: Between the grilled sweet potato pancake ($8), which is barbeque pulled pork, roasted with corn and fugi apple with golden pepper crème and cotija cheese, and the steamed North American Mussels ($9), it's hard to say which appetizer is the best. Many patrons also enjoy the tri-color chip nachos ($9) and the guacamole (prices vary based on additions of jumbo crab or Maine lobster).
Entrees: For lunch, the gluten-free grilled chicken Arepa ($8) is a quick, light alternative. With it's roasted pepper aioli and fresh avocados, the sandwich also delivers quick the kick. If you're in the mood for a salad, you can try the Santa Fe Caesar Salad ($9). It's served in a tortilla bowl with roasted corn and black bean salsa. It features manchego cheese, a spicy Cesar dressing and smoked paprika croutons. For dinner, Del Lima recommends any of the black angus beef specialities or seafood dishes.
Sides: Their crispy sweet potato and Idaho potato fries compliment their lunch specials very well, but you can also have green rice or roasted corn on the cob.
Desserts: Perfecto's churros ($6) served with cinnamon and sugar and chocolate sauce and raspberry preserves is as traditional as you can get, but you can also sample the Baked Plantain Creme Brulee ($6) for a gluten-free treat.
