Suffolk County Results Reported by the Board of Elections

Results for the New York State Senate, U.S. Congressional 2nd District and links to stories about the races.

 

At crowded ballrooms in hotels across Suffolk County Tuesday evening, winners in the New York State Senate, Assembly and United States Congressional races claimed their territories. Some races were called early while others continued into the early morning hours, according to the results on the Suffolk County Board of Elections website.  

Commack residents had their voices heard, many heading out to polls up until the very last minute on Tuesday evening. Local race results were declared on Patch throughout the evening and we've provided you with a round-up of those stories here. 

State-wide Races

The results for the race for Governor, U.S. Senate, Attorney General and Comptroller can be found in this article. In all four contests, the Democrats edged out their competition. 

U.S. Congress, New York State's Second District

In the race between U.S. Rep. Steve Israel and challengers John Gomez and Anthony Tolda, the people of the Second District re-elected Israel.

New York State Senate, Second District

 State Sen. John J. Flanagan, R-East Northport, defeated challenger Ira Bernstein with 69.34 percent of the votes.

New York State Senate, Fifth District

State Sen. Carl Marcellino, R-Syosset, beat out challenger Larry Silverman to hold his Fifth District State Senate seat, a post he's held since 1995.

New York State Assembly, Seventh District

State Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick, R-Smithtown, defeated challenger Richard Macellaro by more than 50 percent of the all votes in the district.

New York State Assembly, Ninth District

State Assemblyman Andrew Raia, R-East Northport, defeated his challenger, Christopher Dempsey, in the race for the Ninth District.
