Talbot's Will Close Commack Location
Outlet one of 25 stores nationwide to shutter in 2012.
The Talbot's Outlet in Commack will close soon, one of 25 stores nationwide described by the clothing retailer as underperforming.
The store, located in the Mayfair Shopping Center on Jericho Turnpike, is currently offering all merchandise as a deep discount.
A store employee said they learned of the closing in late January. No specific date for the store's closing has been given, though signs reading "Store Closing" and "Entire Store on Sale" have been plastered on the storefront.
The announcement comes after Talbot's Inc. announced in December plans close to 110 stores—nine percent of its total headcount—by the end of 2013.
The company shut 83 locations in 2011, with plans to shut 25 in 2012 and two more in 2013. The plan will generate $50 million in savings for the company in 2012, according to the Wall Street Journal's Market Watch blog.
Talbot's locations in Garden city and Deer Park will remain open, an employee said. Shoppers can also make purchases on the company's website.

...omg, another vacant property in commack. how much farther down is our economy headed? but there still seem to be new business buildings cropping up here and there. that doesn't make sense...more of an oxymoron.

a lot of these large chains are closing as part of over production and expansion of stores purposely done to see which store performs best where. A trial and error. Tax payers are left with empty retail stores. It was accelerated by the recession to close the under peforming locations

Looks like Northport Ford just bailed out too. The lot and bldg. are empty. This has been a bas couple months for retail stores in the area. On the upside Harbor Freight Tools and Bob's Stores moved in.
