A look at what residents should know about today in Commack.

Good morning, Commack. Here's a look at what residents should know about today in town.

Back to School Packets Available
Members of the Commack School District now have access to documents and information regarding the 2013-14 school year, including free and reduced lunch applications, district contacts, babysitter bus passes and more.

Mosquito Spraying Canceled
The county said Wednesday afternoon that rain is expected to interfere with aerial spraying planned Thursday for parts of Greenlawn, East Northport and Elwood. The plan was to eradicate mosquitoes that might be carrying the West Nile virus. It had intended to use an aerosol of the pesticide Scourge (resmethrin).

STAR Re-Registration Coming Up
Homeowners have to re-register for Basic STAR exemptions by Dec. 31.

The STAR program provides a partial exemption from school taxes for most homeowners with incomes less than $500,000 on their primary residences. The new registration process will not affect this year’s tax bills, nor will it affect Enhanced STAR. Seniors are required to register every year to receive the Enhanced STAR exemption. More information can be found at http://tax.ny.gov/pit/property/star13.htm.
