Mosquito Spraying for West Nile

Aerial campaign set for Thursday night.

Good morning, Commack. Here's a look at what you should know about this Wednesday.

County to Spray Area for West Nile
By Pam Robinson

Suffolk County will spray parts of Huntington Thursday evening to eradicate  mosquitoes that might be carrying the West Nile Virus, including areas of East Northport and Elwood, which may affect those in the Commack area.
The spraying area will be bounded on the south by Little Plains Road, Elwood Road and Jericho Turnpike;  on the west by Greenlawn Broadway, on the north by the Long Island Rail Road and on the east by Town Line Road.

The Health Department said the workers be using an ultra-low-volume aerosol of the pesticide Scourge (resmethrin).

For safety's sake, the department said children and pregnant women should avoid exposure. If possible, remain inside or avoid the area whenever spraying takes place and for about 30 minutes afterward; Close windows and doors and close the vents of window air-conditioning units to circulate indoor air or, before spraying begins, turn them off.  Windows and air-conditioning vents can be reopened about 30 minutes after spraying.
