10 Ways to Get into the Holiday Spirit

From school events to community events, residents can join together to donate food, time and participate in holiday events around town this month.

Students, parents, teachers and residents can begin their celebrations for the holiday in their classrooms this week with toy drives, holiday concerts and community events. Have something you'd like to add? E-mail Victoria@patch.com or add it to our calendar.

1. Toy Drives: , , and primary schools and and are hosting toy drives from Nov. 29 to Dec. 10. Unwrapped, new toys will be collected in the lobbies of all these schools during that period. Residents can also bring presents to , and Hubbs Administration building.

2. Holiday Concerts: is hosting four holiday concerts on Dec. 2, Dec. 6, Dec. 9, and Dec. 14, beginning at 7 p.m. each night.

3. High School Concerts: is also hosting three holiday concerts on Dec. 8, Dec. 21 and Dec. 22 beginning at 7 p.m. each night.

4. Concerts: The intermediate schools are also hosting their own concerts, with  concerts at and on Dec. 13 and Dec. 15, both beginning at 7 p.m.

5. Holiday Boutiques: Each school is also hosting a holiday boutique this season, with dates available on the school calendar. These begin on Nov. 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and are being hosted at the primary and intermediate schools.

6. Food Drive: The week of Dec. 13 to Dec. 17, Student Council will be hosting a food drive.

7. : The will be hosting a menorah lighting ceremony on Dec. 1 beginning at 4:30 p.m. The event is completely free and will feature a parade from North Ridge Shopping Center to the triangle in the center of Commack.

8. Toys for Tots: is hosting a Toys for Tots drive throughout December and asks that new, unwrapped toys be brought in.

9. Caring Cuts: On Dec. 5, is hosting a hair-cutting event where 100 percent of all proceeds will go to granting the wishes of children at Stony Brook Hospital this holiday.

10. Cheerleader for a Day: Need some time to shop without the kids? Send them over to for the day on Dec. 4 for the 13th annual clinic. From 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., for $25 per child, students will be able to enjoy a day with their friends while you shop for presents.
