5 Family Things to Do on Winter Break

A look at things to do in Commack with the family.

This winter break, students in the Commack School district are off for two full weeks. With the kids home for another week, here are some ideas to get out of the house and have some fun.

AMF Commack Vet Lanes
Let the games begin at AMF Commack VEt Lanes at 2183 Jericho Turnpike. The bowling alley is open from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. until midnight on Thursday, 11 a.m. until 1 a.m. Friday; 10 a.m. until 1 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. Sunday. On New Year's Eve and Day, lanes will be open from noon until midnight.

Movies
Elwood Cinemas also has several films playing this week including the newly released Walking With Dinosaurs 2D, Book Thief, Frozen 2D, Dallas Buyers Club, American Hustle and The Hobbit.

Hoyt Farm Park
Hoyt Farm Park features recreational ball fields, a playground and picnic area. It is also a nature preserve with an apple orchard, vernal pond and open fields. On a nice day, visitors can enjoy enjoy watching the preserve's goats, sheep, cows, chickens and pigs enjoying the outdoors.

Shopping
Now that Christmas is over, lines and waiting in stores is a bit more manageable. Between Mayfair Shopping, Peppertree Commons, King Kullen Shopping Center and Northgate Shopping Center, there's no shortage of store in Commack. Pick up a belated-Christmas gift or just treat yourself with a gift going in to the new year.

Library Events
The Commack Public Library has activities for children, teens and adults each day. Call (631) 499-0888 to reserve a spot in any of their activities.
