5 Tips for Living Green in Commack

Recycling can be done in a variety of ways with help from local businesses and town procedures.

Want to live a green life? Check out these local tips for going green in Commack.

  1. Bring back your printer cartridges to Staples. They collect all used cartridges and recycle them for you. If you're a rewards club member, they will give you $2 per cartridge back in a rewards check, an associate said.
  2. Recycle your plastic bags at Stop and Shop and buy some reusable ones from there, Trader Joe's, King Kullen or Waldbaums.  You can also buy reusable bags at Marshall's, Target and Walmart. Check out the latest ratings of Supermarkets' reusable bag policy as well.
  3. Buy a coffee traveler from Starbucks, Marshall's or Dunkin Donuts. Starbucks has cold cups as well. Some retailers will give you a discount on your daily cup of joe because of your eco-friendly decision.
  4. Donate gently used books to Commack Public Library, instead of throwing them away. The library accepts donations year-round.
  5. Recycle – If you live in Smithtown, download the recycling calendar here and if you live on the Huntington side, download it here.
