A Young Team Brings New Life to Commack

Made up primarily of sophomores and juniors, the Commack Varsity football team brings enthusiasm and talent to the field this fall.

Commack Varsity Football ended last year's season with a 2-6 record and plans to come back as a young, but competitive team this year, Coach Joe Reggio said.

Camps and tryouts – 2-a-days, Reggio said – began on Aug. 16 with many sophomores and juniors returning. Reggio said he thinks the experience this students had on the field last year will pay off this year.

The junior varsity and varsity teams will have about 45-47 students on each team, he said. The numbers have not been determined yet, but will be determined by the first game on Sept. 7.

The younger students, Reggio said, are very enthusiastic and quite talented. He said many seniors have provided key leadership for the students including Marc Recio (guard, mid-linebacker), Frank Lentsch (guard and defensive tight end), Tyler Smith (quarterback), Danny Brown (quarterback and starting safety) and John Diccochi(tackle).

These five players have been on the team for the past four years, and on varsity for the past two years, Reggio said.
