A large crowd gathered at MacArthur Airport on Saturday afternoon to welcome Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Kenneth Gray home from Afghanistan.
After a six-month tour of duty in Kandahar, Gray returned was welcomed home by a red carpet and his wife and two children.
Gray, a Commack resident, spent his time in Afghanistan installing and repairing communications lines and towers in hostile territory.
The Northport Pipe and Drum Corp., which Gray is a member of, joined his friends and family in welcoming him home.
Gray is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and was an accomplished athlete at Holy Trinity High School, running track and playing lacrosse.
Gray's homecoming came just one day before President Barack Obama announced the death of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden by Aermican troops.
