Safe Trick or Treating
My good friend once told me to only go trick or treating at houses that are decorated. Seems like good advice. Travel in a group if possible with a parent nearby, and check ALL candy/treats (erasers that look like candy, expired candies, or choking hazards for little ones). Also, if you are putting candy outside, make a separate container for nut free/allergen free items!
Why Activist, Not Corporate Politicians, Need to Run for Office
I'm a political activist. Yes, that's what my title is in the world of titles. Why? Because on this 10th anniversary of my 15 year old daughter's death from suicide, due to being prescribed SSRI medication that was never approved for children under twenty-four years of age (yes, you read that correctly), I recall how I set out to find out why this happened ten years ago and how I have ended up here ---running for NY State Senate -- knowing full well that I am doing this for all the right reasons, NOT because I am a politician or even want to be.....
Third Quarter Stock Market Review
As we entered the Bull Market that had dazzled the financial world for the first half of 2013, we began to see signs of upcoming volatility in the third quarter. The Federal Reserve’s stimulus policies were the focal point as economic data came in, coupled with geopolitical news from Syria in particular. Earnings in July were decent and most of July stocks continued moving straight up. August saw a downward move with tensions rising from Syria after news of a possible chemical attack on its own people.

"Theyre selling postcards of the hanging
Theyre painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
The circus is in town"
Lyrics from one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs, Desolation Row. To post the whole song would be boring and too much of a downer, but it paints a surreal picture of a small seaside town, in another time.AWOL In The Native Garden?
I really should be out in the yard doing Something. I have native plants that have volunteered subdivisions that need to be relocated. Weeds to weed, or at least deadhead before they go to seed *buddelia especially. And always there is English Ivy to pull.
There is one Autumn gardening staple you won’t find here: Mums. I know people love the colors - and that they-as much as pumpkins - define Fall entrances. To me, they resemble LEGO plants; with a just a little bit more life in them.
