Blood Bank Set For Injured Motorcyclist

Residents can donate to help save the life of a driver, who was seriously hurt in a crash last week.

A blood bank is now in progress at Stony Brook University Medical Center for a motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a crash Thursday, June 28 on Daly Road near the Dix Hills and Commack border.

Stephen Peragine, 54, of Smithtown, was driving a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southeast on Daly Road, 200 feet north of Blacksmith Lane, when he lost control of the bike and crashed into a tree on the opposite side of the roadway.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the crash. Peragine was then airlifted via Suffolk County helicopter to Stony Brook Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

"He's showing improvement each day but it's going to be a long and slow recovery," his daughter Gabrielle said.

The blood bank is open six days a week, Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. until 8 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:45 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Appointments are not necessary, but can be made by calling 631-444-3662. Residents can request that their donations be made in Stephen Peragine's name.
