Closed In Honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Schools, public institutions and several businesses in Commack are closed for business on Monday.

Today is the official holiday honoring the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who would have been 83 years old.

Here's a list of places that are closed Monday in honor of Dr. King, with a few exceptions:

* students have Monday off from classes as the second official federal holiday of 2012.

* There will be no mail delivery from the U.S. Postal Service on Monday and the Commack Post Office is closed.

* is closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. You'll be able to grab a book when they reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Commack Public Library, however, will be open Monday. 

* You won't be able to cash a check at or banks, but is open Monday.

Huntington congregations are participating in an interfaith service today at 2 p.m. to honor his memory.

The event, at the Suffolk Y Jewish Community center in Commack, includes an interfaith prayer service, choir concert an exhibit of children’s anti-hunger projects titled, We Can End Childhood Hunger, and  storyteller Heather Forrest.
