Commack residents will be gathering to discuss their intentions of a community garden and hot topic of the ongoing Marion Carll Farm lawsuit.
Commack Civic Association is scheduled to host their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27. at the Commack branch of the Smithtown Special Library District. All residents and business owners of the Commack community are welcome to attend.
The civic association's agenda will focus on the group's latest effort to create a community garden. There have been conversations about potential land for use at Hoyt Farm in Commack as well as the according to President Bruce Ettenberg. The committee working on making this dream a reality is expected to give a full update.
Residents will also have the opportunity to discuss ongoing issues in the Commack community including the future of Marion Carll Farm, Townline Road truck traffic and rezoning of the industrial area between Commack and Kings Park.
Recently, the four Commack residents have filed a motion to intervene in the lawsuit between the Marion Carll Farm heirs and Commack School District. School officials have pushed back, fighting the taxpayers request to intervene in defense of the district. Both parties are waiting the decision of a judge as to whether residents will be allowed to have a legal say in the ongoing lawsuit over the historic farm.
The zoning of the industrial area between Commack and Kings Park is pending before Town of Smithtowns Board of Zoning Appeals. Applicants Carlson Associates and FB4Realty have requested the public hearing previously set for Sept. 5 be rescheduled for Nov. 21.
