Contractors For Kids Bowls for A Casue

The fourth Annual Bowl-a-Thon at Vets Lanes put the fun in fundraising.

Contractors for Kids is continued their mission of raising money and awareness for sick children and their families across Long Island by hosting their annual Bowl-a-Thon at on Saturday.

The Bowl-a-Thon, now in its fourth year, is one of the organization's many fundraising endeavors. The main goal of Contractors for Kids is to help children and their families overcome various obstacles associated with sickness, injury or death.  Such services include helping people without health insurance who have fallen behind on their mortgages and fathers who have run out of sick time but still want to spend time with their terminally ill child.

At Saturday's event, the organization gave residents a chance to get out and have fun, all in the name of a great cause. Board members Allison Ray and Steve DeLuca joined volunteers like Erica Damato and many others for an afternoon of bowling. Each participant donated a minimum of $50 to Contractors for Kids, which bought them 2 hours of cosmic bowling, lunch, unlimited soda and a T-shirt.

“The most important part of the Bowl-a-Thon is the awareness being brought to kids,” Ray said as the event got ready to kick off, and the alleys filled up with eager bowlers. “Events like this help bring students from schools and the community together, and they can actually see what effect they will have on a child that is sick.”

Along with students and community members, families who have received helped from Contractors for Kids, such as Maria Barrett and her son Bobby, attended the event.

When the clock struck noon, the lights went low and Commack Lanes turned into a sea of green Bowl-a-Thon shirts.  Kids and adults all came together to bowl, eat, drink and donate their time and money to an organization that supports so many local families in their time of need.

By the end of the afternoon, many frames were bowled, fun was had, and most, importantly, members of the community stepped out to help their fellow Long Islanders.
