Event Spotlight: 2nd Annual Shana Kay 5K Walk/Run

The Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center hosts memorial run to help local residents afford day care, programs.

 

The Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center will be hosting the 2nd annual Shana Kay  5k Walk/Run in Commack this Sunday. 

Shana Kay was a 2004 graduate of Commack High School, tragically died on July 3, 2005, as a result of encephalitis, a virus that causes inflammation of the brain.

The 5K Walk/Run will be to help raise funds for the Suffolk Y JCC's Scholarships fun, as Kay was a Suffolk Y JCC graduate and a camper the facility.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the race start at 8:30 a.m. 

The race will start in front of the Suffolk Y and loop through the surrounding neighborhood. Registration is for adults, ages 16 and older, or in family groups of three people or more. A Kid's Run for children age 15 and under will be held following the start of the 5K.
