Use this local guide to plan your family fun.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week. You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK


Where/When: Smithtown Township Arts Council; Thursday, 10:30 a.m.
Why Go: It's natural for a child to see a rock and throw it, or grab a a bead and try to swallow it. This class teaches them to use common items for art.
Pricing: $75 for the course, $12 for materials


Where/When: Rolling Hills Primary School; Friday, 7 p.m.
Why Go: Some people like to run, some like to lift weights, some like to hit the couch. Get the whole family together and learn fun new exercises.

Where/When: Nesconset Branch, Smithtown Library; Friday, 10 a.m.
Why Go: Turn those goo-goos and ga-gas into "I want some Oreo cookies and Cheese Doodles!" with a language-based program at the library.

Where/When: Smithtown Center For The Performing Arts; Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 1 p.m.
Why Go: See one of the most beloved children's tales in a whole new way--come to life on the stage.

Where/When: Staller Center For The Arts; Saturday, 8 p.m., Sunday, 4 p.m.
Why Go: See the most jaw-dropping acrobatic acts you've ever witnessed as performers run, fall, jump and make your heart race.
