'I Matter' Community Art Project Comes to Huntington

The Huntington Public Library has teamed up with Tri Community & Youth Agency to bring the “I matter” community art project to Huntington. 

Both the Library’s Main Street and Station branches will house this townwide social impact art project that empowers teens by providing public venues for them to be seen and heard. 

As part of the program, students photograph one another and write why they matter in the world. Collections of inspiring faces and personal “I matter” statements are then displayed in public spaces as a reminder to community members that we all matter. It’s a public declaration of self-worth and a compelling invitation for community support. 

The “I matter” project is offered by the Center for Creative Development in Huntington as a character development and drug prevention program for Long Island teens. It’s a call to action to educate and inspire teens to make better life decisions and steer clear of destructive behavior, including substance abuse. The program motivates kids to make a positive difference, not only in their lives but also in the lives of loved ones and their community. 

The exhibit will be on display at both Huntington Library branches beginning June 7, 2014. An opening reception will be held at the Main Street branch on June 7 from 2-4pm. 

To bring this vision to life, The Center for Creative Development is working with a team of Huntington middle school and high school students to fundraise through a Kickstarter fundraising campaign that must be funded by May 15, 2014.
