Jan. 10 is Dancing, Bowling and College Application Tips

Start the week off right with some local activities

We successfully survived the first snow of 2011 -- congratulations Commack! Celebrate by stopping by one of these events:

1. : Stand out from the God-only-knows how many applications landing on the admissions board's desk with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Dave Marcus' "Seven Steps to Getting into College." The tip-off begins at 7:30 p.m. at .

2. : Stony Brook's Simons Center for Geometry and Physics hosts the Barkin/Selissen Project. Look forward to a night of dance and musical accompaniment by trombonist Ray Anderson and the Sirius String Quartet. The performance starts at 8 p.m.

3. , : Watch the Commack Cougars bowl over the competition at . The boys team plays at 3:30 p.m. against Sachem North and the girls team plays at 4 p.m. against Northport.

4. : Shana Kay, who graduated from in 2004, died of encephalitis a year later. Her family and members of the high school faculty and local community gathered Thursday to unveil two new scoreboards in her honor in the south gym.
