Jan. 30 is Pet Care, Star Trek, and a Football Great

This Sunday is packed with one-of-a-kind events.

Get into Super Bowl mode one week early by meeting Alan Veingrad and checking out his Super Bowl ring at the Chai Center.  If football isn't your thing, bring the kids to to the Caleb Smith Preserve or the Staller Center for family fun.

1.   To help out during the rough economy, Peace Love Pets Veterinary Care in Commack will be hosting a Helping Paw event at the , where you can take your cat or dog to be spayed or neutered, as well as receive vaccinations at a low cost. You can also help out the hospital by stopping in during the event hours between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. and making a donation.

2.   Local musician will be performing numbers from the swing era up through Frank Sinatra at the from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The performance is free and open to all.

3. :  Take the kids to Mad Science Presents: Star Trek Live at the Staller Center at Stony Brook University. Starting at 4 p.m. is a one-hour journey with the Starfleet Academy and the Mad Science Team, who will present many hands-on science activities. Tickets are $12 per person. 

4. :  The Caleb Smith Preserve is hosting “A Nature Clue for You,” a family event of games and nature fun geared towards children age seven or older.  The activities will last from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., and tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for children, and free for children under age three.  Be sure to call and register for the event.

5. Meet and Greet Alan VeingradAlan "Shlomo" Veingrad, Super Bowl champion and star player from both the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys will be speaking at the Chai Center in Dix Hills at 7:30 p.m..  He will also take photos, as well as autograph photos and footballs.  Tickets for the event are $15 for members, and $18 for non-members.
