Dozens gathered at Butterfields Restaurant in Hauppauge Sunday to raise money for Hannah Klein, a 6-year-old Commack student who suffers from Treacher Collins Syndrome, a rare genetic craniofacial disorder.
Her parents, Bruce and Stacy, organized the fundraiser to help fund a new hearing aid for Hannah and other out-of-pocket medical expenses for the next two years.
More than 50 people, including family, friends and business associates attended the fundraiser, which featured food, music and a magician. The Klein family also received donations from guests who could not attend.
"The fundraiser was a success," said Bruce Klein. "It was a pleasant surprise to get all the donations and support that we did."
The event marks the first fundraiser the Kleins have held for Hannah. Bruce has participated in a number of charity events in the past, including a benefit with Larry Hoff of Channel 11 News, which raised more than $10,000 for the National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction.
