Power Outages Hit Commack

LIPA reports 289 homes in the area are without electricity Thursday morning.

Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island.

The Long Island Power Authority reported that 1,608 customers were without power townwide as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday. That number was down to 514 by 10:30 a.m. the same day. In the Town of Huntington, 8,273 LIPA customers were powerless as of 10:30 a.m., including 289 in Commack.

More than 13,000 customers are without power throughout Suffolk County, as of late Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.

A high wind warning was in effect for Suffolk County through 9 a.m. Thursday.
