Scarecrows to Stir up Old-Fashioned Fun at Caleb Smith

Local families and clubs sought to help create scarecrows for the annual event.

As the fall gets underway, the scarecrows are expected to make their yearly appearance at Caleb Smith State Park.

The Friends of Caleb Smith State Park are seeking local families and clubs interested in creating colorfully dressed scarecrows for its third annual Scarecrow Trail. Scarecrows will be set loose on the trails throughout Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown.

Those interested in participating can pick up a reserved frame to decorate at home. All scarecrows must be returned to the park by Oct. 19, where they will be put on display through mid-November.

Reservations for a frame should be made by calling 631-265-1054. Only one frame per family, individual or club through Oct. 5. Frames can be picked up during park hours on Wednesdays to Sundays, 8 a.m. - 4 pm.
