Serenity at Caleb Smith Park

When one can't beat Mother Nature, embrace her.

That's what the wildlife at Caleb Smith State Park in Smithtown are doing today.

The insects at the butterfly sanctuary within the park are enjoying the blossoming flowers and plants within the field. Benches within the sanctuary are a peaceful spot for anyone looking to enjoy the sunny weather today.

The butterflies seen in the above photo are called European Cabbage butterflies, a park worker explained.

The butterflies were accidentally introduced to the continent in 1860 and became widespread pest since their caterpillars eat cabbage.
