Suffolk DSS Provides Winter Storm Emergency Info

Hours and locations to assist homeless residents and those in need of home heating oil provided.

The Suffolk County Department of Social Services has provided an updated list of contact information for county residents that are either homeless or have run out of fuel during this ongoing winter storm. 

For homeless residents in need of shelter during the frigid temps, contact the DSS Temporary Housing Assistance Unit at (631) 854-9517 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Anyone wishing to contact the department during off-hours or weekends can call the Emergency Services Unit at (631) 854-9100.

Assistance with temporary shelter is also available at the following locations, which can be contacted between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

  • 2 South 2nd Street; Deer Park 
  • 80 Middle Country Road; Coram 
  • 200 Wireless Blvd; Hauppauge 
  • 893 East Main Street; Riverhead

For those who are out of home heating fuel or in need of emergency repairs on the oil burner, the county's Home Energy Assistance Program can be reached at (631) 853-8820, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Anyone wishing to contact the program during off-hours or on a weekend can call the Emergency Services Unit at (631) 854-9100.

Energy and fuel assistance is also available at the following locations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

Suffolk County Health Centers, Tri-Community and Patchogue, will not be open tonight, according to county officials. All Suffolk County Health Centers will open tomorrow at 12 p.m.
