Sunken Meadow Open Late for Meteor Shower Viewing

Stargazers can watch shooting stars Sunday evening until dawn Monday.

Sunken Meadow State Park will remain open during the nighttime hours for viewing of the Perseids Meteor Shower Sunday evening until dawn Monday.

The Perseid meteor shower is already underway and will continue through Aug. 24. The peak viewing will be Aug. 11-12. Stargazers could see upward of 60 meteorites flash before them per hour.

According to park officials there will be no charge and the normal star gazing permit will not be required. Viewers must remain near their vehicle.

Bug spray is suggested as well as a chair that reclines. Binoculars are not necessary. Viewers can look towards the northeast and enjoy the celestial show.
