Thankful for a New Community to Call Home

Having spent five months covering the community, I can safely say I'm thankful for my new home.

If you asked me where I'd be celebrating the holidays in 2010 six months ago, I never would have said Long Island, and yet now that I am here and a full-fledged resident of Commack, I can safely say I'm thankful to call this community my home.

Commack – and Long Island in general – is a community dedicated to their children, their activities and their town governments. The passion I see when covering school board and town hall meetings continues to amaze me – I am thankful to be able to cover a community with such a vibrant spirit.

Moving into this community was a hard thing to do – having spent the last four years jumping around a bit (from Connecticut to New York and even spending a bit of time in Italy) it's nice to be able to call a place my home. I am thankful for the kind people, interesting residents and wonderful resources available to me in Commack.

I am thankful for the chance to cover exciting news – unemployment, school issues and community issues in such a unique way. Community journalism is changing and I am thankful that I have the opportunity to see it change right here in Long Island.

As I sit down at my Thanksgiving table, I'll remember to say an extra special "thank you" for all these things and people I've had the chance to experience and know that this holiday season – my first in Commack – will be quite a special one.
