Celebrate National Library Week at the  with a series of great events, including Long Island Reads on Tuesday, where you can get in on the Island-wide discussion of Sag Harbor by Colson Whitehead. Bring about the love of books with your children as well with great activities for every age.

Tuesday, Apr. 11

Parent/Toddler Workshop
Time: 10—11 a.m.
Description: Sign up for this five-week program where you can enjoy music, crafts, puppets, and puzzles with your 18-35-month-old.

Long Island Reads 2011
Time: 1—2:30 p.m.
Description: For National Library Week, join your community in reading Sag Harbor by Colson Whitehead, a novel about a young black student in a prep school in Manhattan in 1985 who finds support in Sag Harbor with a group of African American professionals.

Mini Herb Garden: Grades 3-5
Time: 4:30—5:30 p.m.
Description: Create a small herb garden with Ms. Diane, who will provide the soil, flower pots, seeds, and decorations.

Pizza and Book-to-Movie Night – The Princess Bride: Grades 6-12
Time: 6—8 p.m.
Description: Introduce your teen to the classic medieval-comedy, The Princess Bride, which began as a novel by William Goldman.  Who doesn’t love sword fighting, romance, comedy, and rodents of unusual sizes?

Rabbit “Tails: Grades K-2
Time: 6:45—7:30 p.m.
Description: Let Mr. Arroyo take care of your young child’s bedtime story for you. Bring your kids to the storytime pit to listen to stories about rabbits, including a bunny puppet.

Wednesday, Apr. 13

AARP Tax Assistance
Time: 10 a.m.—2 p.m.
Description: AARP members can receive free, quality assistance with personal income taxes. Please bring with you a copy of last year’s tax return, your W2 form, 1099 forms and any other information concerning your income and expenses.  Be sure to sign up at the circulation desk.

Are You Game?

Description: Join friends and neighbors every Friday for an afternoon game of bridge or mahjong.

Time: 10—10:45 a.m.
Description: Join Jeanne Hall to make giant ladybug puppets with moveable wings using poster board.  A parent or guardian must remain with their child during the program.

Be My Bunny Banner: Kindergarten-2nd grade
Time: 11—11:45 a.m.
Description: Create a colorful banner to welcome in spring, including a huggable bunny.
