This Week at Commack Library

A guide to the activities happening at your local library.

The is hosting a handful of useful resources this week, including a NY and Long Island Driver Safety Course for registrants to get points off their license and qualify for insurance savings. AARP members can also come down and get free tax assistance. Be sure to register for events by either by following the link, signing up in person, or calling the library.

Monday, Mar. 7 Dancercize/Toning
Time: 4:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
Description: Sign up for this class that meets twice a week and includes low-impact dance and toning exercises. Be sure to wear comfortable exercise attire and bring a towel, mat, water, and dumbbell weights.
Location: Community Room

NY and Long Island Driver Safety Program
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Description: Pick up an application in the library to sign up for this certified course to get four points reduced from your driving record, as well as qualify for three years of insurance premium savings. This is a two-part course is six hours in total, and will continue on Thursday evening at the same time.  The course fee is $36.

Tuesday, Mar. 8
Get Ready for Spring!
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Description: Bring you three year old-pre-k aged child to listen to Mrs. Kelleher tell Spring stories, and create a simple colorful craft.  Be sure to register online.
Location: Community Room

Contemporary Book Discussion Group
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Description: This week’s book discussion will be on Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver, which tells the story of Harrison William Shepherd, a man searching for his identity as he bounces between Mexico and the United States in the 1930s through 1950s.

Wednesday, Mar. 9
AARP Tax Assistance
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Description: AARP members can receive free, quality assistance with personal income taxes. Please bring with you a copy of last year's tax return, your W2 form, 1099 forms and any other information concerning your income and expenses.  Be sure to sign up at the circulation desk.
Location: Community Room

Thursday, Mar. 10
Leprechaun Loot Bag
Time: 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Description:  Ms. Diane will help your third-fifth grade child make their very own St. Patrick’s Day-themed loot bag, and give them goodies to fill them with.
Location: Community Room

NY and Long Island Driver Safety Program
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Description: The last three hours of the six hour program that began on Monday evening.
Location: Community Room

Friday, Mar. 11
Are You Game?
Time: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Description: Join friends and neighbors every Friday for an afternoon game of bridge or mahjong.
