This Week at Commack's Libraries: Learn About Defensive Driving And Hypnosis

Need to knock some points off your license, or just get cheaper insurance? Take a look at the defensive driving courses being offered this week at Commack Public Library.

Tak advantage of the fabulous opportunities at the this week for drivers of any age, with sessions being offered with  the NY & LI Driver Safety Program, as well as AARP.  There are also activities about for the kindergarten through second grade age group, with plenty of read alouds and crafts.

This week, Introduction to Hypnosis will be held at the at 7 p.m. The program will focus on the art of hypnosis and benefits that come from it, including promoting weight loss or quitting smoking amongst other things.

Monday, May 9

NY and Long Island Driver Safety Program
Time: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Description: Take four points off your record, get three years of premium insurance savings, and learn more about being a defensive driver in this course.  If you are interested in signing up, call the NY & LI Driver Safety Program at 757-1607.  This is a two-part course, totaling six hours, which continues on Thursday evening.  The fee for the course is $36.

Tuesday, May 10

AARP Driver Safety Program
Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Description:  The library is sponsoring a Mature Driving Course which will be administered by an AARP volunteer. Completion of this program entitles the driver to a 10% deduction on their automobile liability and collision insurance for 3 years.  Only Commack Library patrons will be allowed to sign up the first day, and they must register in person with their library card and AARP membership card.  The course costs $12 for AARP members, and $14 for non-members.

Mysteries and Moon Pies: Grades K-2
Time: 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Description: Mrs. Kelleher will read some not-so-scary stories while children snack on a tasty homemade southern moon pie of chocolate and marshmallow.
Location: Storytime Pit

Spring and Summer Salad Secrets
Time: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Description: Join Chef Ed Kaufmann of Chef Ed's Creative Cuisine to learn about ways to make healthy and delicious salads with unique ingredients, dressings, plating, and presentation.  There will be a $4 tasting fee at the time of registration.

Mother Goose Rhyme Time
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Description: Children and babies are encouraged to come down
to this program to listen to Mother Goose nursery rhymes and
listen to songs as well.

Zumba for Everyone
Time: 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Description: This is the second week of Zumba exercise classes, a workout that makes use of cardio and Latin dance moves.

Thursday, May 12

Contemporary Book Discussion Group
Time: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Description: This week, join your neighbors in discussing Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, a nonfiction account of how Abdulrahman Zeitoun remained in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and helped other survivors, as well as his disappearance soon ater.

Celebrate Horton Hears a Who!: Grades K-2
Time: 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Description: Ms. Albano and the girls from Girl Scout Troop 2759 will read Horton Hears a Who, serve a snack, and invite children to make a jungle diorama to show the different types of jungle characters in Dr. Seuss’ story.
Location: Community Room

Budding Books Story Time: Grades K-2
Time: 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Description: Mr. Arroyo will be reading stories featuring flowers and plants using puppets.

which is an exercise that combines the use of yoga and pilates.
