Thrift Shop Sells Collectibles and Vintage Clothing

Commack United Methodist's Thrift Shoppe held it's annual bag sale on Saturday and locals shopped till they filled a grocery bag – for $5.

Commack United Methodist Church held its annual bag sale on Saturday, showcasing household items alongside rare collectibles. King Kullen donated grocery bags to the Church for their bag sale – anything that fit in the bag was $5, the entire day. For a dollar they could purchase a coat or suit or other large item to fill up the whole bag.

"We have a lot of quality items here," said Pat Spory, co-chairman of the event. "We have shoes, hats, boots belts, anything than can go on your body. We also have Liz Claiborne products and some very special collectible items, like a 1976 Matel Pocahontas doll, on sale."

One woman came all the way from Brooklyn to shop.

"My daugther and grandaughter live in Commack and they told me about it. I'm glad they did because they have some really nice stuff on sale here," she said.

"It's 12:15 and I'd say we've done pretty well so far," said Joan Svoboda, treasurer. "I'd say we've had about a hundred people come in and we've sold thirty bags."
