Trees Down in Commack

Heavy winds took out limbs and full trees in the area.

Severe weather overnight on Wedsnday and heavy winds Thursday knocked out trees and power across Commack.

Reader Mary Ann Smail took the photo above, showing a large tree that was ripped from the ground and landed on a fence on Roxbury Drive, breaking it into several pieces.

On Thursday moring, about 300 residents woke up to powerless homes. However, most had their electricity back by late afternoon. As of Friday morning, only 20 customers were still without power, according to the Long Island Power Authority's outtage map.

The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph this week and a ,high wind warning was in effect for Suffolk County through 9 a.m. Thursday.
