PHOTOS: Smithtown Branch of Library District Closes for Renovations

The Smithtown branch of the Smithtown Special Library District is the last of the four branches to close for renovations, a project slated to be complete by the end of this year.

The Smithtown branch of the Smithtown Special Library District closed its doors Sunday to start boxing up books, DVDs, computers and more, in preparation for building renovations.

“Most likely it will take around two-to-three weeks to everything emptied out of here,” said Robert Lusak, library director. “Office spaces will be moved out last. A majority of books and DVDs will be going into storage, some materials are going over to Nesconset.”

With the June 30 opening of the Nesconset branch at the old armory, the Smithtown branch can move forward with the building and renovation process, which Lusak said could be complete by the end of this year, if not early 2012.

Lusak said the construction for the Smithtown building would be different than the other branches because much of the current building will remain as is, with new paint, light bulbs and fixtures, and more.

Work on the roof is scheduled to be complete Wednesday.

I'm about 90% sure this place is haunted.
