Lights Out at Denny's Kids in Peppertree Commons
Denny's Kids clothing store said goodbye to its Commack home within the Peppertree Commons Shopping Center June 29.

The store is relocating to the Elwood Shopping Center in East Northport and taking over the space formerly occupied by RiteAid.

Commack’s LA Boxing Reopening As UFC GYM

UFC GYM, formerly LA Boxing, will celebrate its grand re-opening July 6 in Commack.

According to a press statement, UFC GYM merged with LA Boxing Franchise at the beginning of the year, and is now in the process of opening multiple locations across Long Island. The first converted gym on LI is the 6240 Jericho Tpke. location. The next will be in Huntington Station, also on Jericho Turnpike.

New Leadership on Commack BOE
Newly elected Board of Education members Steve Hartman and James Tampellini took their seats for the first time on the Commack school board Tuesday.

Hartman was also elected to be vice president by the board. Peter Wunsch won the presidential nomination. Mary Jo Masciello, who previously served as president and Deborah Guber, who served as vice president returned to their roles as trustees.

Man Arrested in Macy's Jewelry Theft
Police have found the man who they believe stole jewelry from Macy’s on Veteran’s Memorial Highway in Commack.

FEMA Reimburses Smithtown $6.2M for Sandy Cleanup
Smithtown Town officials are eagerly waiting the arrival of a $6.2 million check that will help pay off debts from Hurricane Sandy. 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to reimburse the town for 90 percent of the $6.9 million Smithtown officials claim was spent on collecting, removing and disposing debris after Sandy, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer's office announced. It does not include rebuilding and restoration funds.
