Week in Review: Commack Budget Passes, Car Crashes into Building

A look back at the top stories on Commack Patch this past week.

Commack Budget Passes, Incumbent Ousted
Residents gave their approval of $179,386,921 million 2013-14 budget Tuesday by a vote of 2,318 to 1,446.

The budget approval means that taxpayers will see a 2.91 tax levy increase, represents an average tax rate increase between $270 and $280.

Incumbent Jeffrey Egan (1,604 votes) was ousted by newcomer James Tampellini (1,654 votes). Steve Hartman (1,773 votes), also new to the board, was elected for a three-year term on the Board of Education starting July 1, 2013. Jarett Behar received 1,526 votes.

New Faces on Commack School Board
By a margin of 50 votes, James Tampellini ousted incumbent candidate Jeffrey Egan in the Commack School Board Election Tuesday night. He will be sworn in this July, along with another newcomer, Steve Hartman, who ran against Jarrett Behar. Hartman won by 247 votes.  

Car Crashes into Building on Larkfield Road
A driver lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a small strip mall on Larkfield Road near Colonial Street in East Northport Sunday morning, fire officials said.

Ride Back to 1915 in a Ford Model T
It’s not every day that you see a driver using a hand crank to start their car, so when this reporter passed Bob Coiro pulling his 1915 Ford Model T into Goodyear Auto Service Center on Jericho Turnpike in Commack, it was clear that there would be a story to tell.
