Commack Schools Earn NYS Reward Status

Commack High School and Burr Intermediate School recently received designated as a New York State Reward School by New York State Commissioner John B. King, Jr.

Commack High School and Burr Intermediate were two of 249 schools designated for the 2012-2013 academic year. Among other requirements, schools granted the designation had to be in the top 20 percent in the state for English language arts and math performance for the past two years.

Childrenswear Fills Gap Left by Denny's
A new children's clothing store has taken over the space formerly occupied by Denny's Kids at the Peppertree Commons in Commack.

Denny's Kids said goodbye to its Commack home June 29 and relocated to the Elwood Shopping Center in East Northport. Childrenswear Center, a discount clothing store for kids, is now settled into Peppertree Commons. Every item in the store is $6 or less.

Police: More Than $1,000 in Electronics Taken from Commack Staples

An East Northport man was arrested Aug. 14 after he allegedly stole more than $1,000 worth of electronics from the Commack Staples, where he worked.

According to police, Marc Chery, 23, took nine cell phones, two tablets and a GPS from his former place of employment. He was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a Class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Local Students Earn Scholarships in Memory of Fallen Firefighters

The Town of Huntington Fire Chief's Council recently presented its annual scholarship awards to students affiliated with the town fire and rescue services.

Daniel Paccione, of Commack, is one of seven students to receive the award. Paccione is the son of Commack Fire Department Chief Peter Paccione. He attends SUNY Farmingdale, majoring in sports management.
