Week in Review: Construction Begins at Mayfair

A look back at this past week's top stories on Commack Patch.

Jo-Ann Craft Store Moving Into Commack
Workers are starting the beginning stages of construction to put in a craft store next to Sleepy's within the shopping center off of Crooked Hill Road in Commack.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store is expected to open this fall at the shopping center on Garet Place in the same building as Sleepy's and the Guitar Center.

Construction Begins to Build New Restaurant at Mayfair
Construction is underway at the Mayfair Shopping Center to add a restaurant expansion onto the property.

Levin Management’s request to add a 3,568-square-foot restaurant next to Bagel Boss was approved by the Town of Smithtown May 2. Previously, this space served as the drive-through facilities for the Bank of Smithtown.

Denny's Kids Moving to E. Northport
Denny's Kids, a staple in Commack's Peppertree Commons shopping center, is moving.

The children's clothing store will relocate to the Elwood Shopping Center in East Northport at the end of the month. The store will take over the space formerly occupied by Rite Aid.

Denny's last day in Commack is June 29.

Grill 454 Demolished
Grill 454 is no more. The former restaurant within the King Kullen shopping center is now a pile of rubble.

The eatery, which closed in January, was demolished Tuesday to make way for Miller's Ale House, which will open this fall.

Local Dad Still Missing
A local dad is still missing after he left for work June 14, and never returned.

Robert Mayer, 46, who lives on the Dix Hills side of the Commack School District with his wife Ida and their two children, left for work last Friday for his job as an electrician in Brooklyn, but he never made it back home.
