Police Rescue Overdose Victim in Commack
Police rescued a 22-year-old drug overdose victim Monday morning in Commack.

According to police officials, Second Precinct Police Officer Joseph Mango responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting that the man was unconscious and not breathing at Sheldon Place in Commack, just after midnight.

When Mango arrived, he found the man was unresponsive and was in respiratory distress, police said. A syringe was found near the victim. 

Commack Manufacturer May Expand
A new Commack battery manufacturer may open another site in town.

Bren-Tronics, which creates rechargeable batteries for military use, recently opened a 32,000-square-foot factory at 8 Brayton Court, which is on the same street as the company’s headquarters. 

The $5-million development will add 47 jobs. The company currently has 217 employees.   

Rookie Firefighters Test Skills at Former Grill 454

Smoke filled the Grill 454 Wednesday as rookies of the Commack Fire Department fought a mock blaze to get a taste of what fighting an actual fire might be like.   

Before the building is torn down, the department was able to create the feel of real fire in the former restaurant, complete with smoke, darkness and two victims, to help 20 rookie firefighters build their skills on an actual commercial building.   

Kings Park 'Eyesore' Causes Town to Reconsider Permit Limits
A Kings Park "eyesore" that appears to be abandoned in midst of construction is leaving Smithtown Town officials wondering when to declare a project's time has run out. 

Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio asked town board members if they are willing to re-examine the how many times a building permit could be renewed. A building permit is often required to legally build, construct or renovate a building or dwelling in the Town of Smithtown.

C2 Education Opens New Learning Center in Commack
A new educational learning center will be opening its doors in Commack just in time to help combat brain drain over summer vacation.

C2 Education will be opening its doors at 6300 Jericho Turnpike in the Commack Towers shopping plaza. The learning center hopes to offer parents ways to keep their children learning over summer break. 

Cafe Havana Reopens
Cafe Havana on the Commack/Smithtown border, which had been closed for about a year, is now reopen.

The Cuban restaurant, located at 944 West Jericho Tpke. in Smithown, underwent an interior transformation including repairs and refurbishments. The eatery now features a newly redesigned bar, an updated dining area and new menu items.
