Trader Joe's Drops Healthcare for Part-Timers
Trader Joe's, the grocer once lauded for providing health care coverage to its part-time workers, is about to push those employees off its plan. 

The Commack location, along with the rest of the company, will stop covering employees who work less than 30 hours per week. The change is set for the start of 2014. Instead of insurance, workers instead will get a check for $500 in January. 

7-Eleven Construction Begins in Commack
A new 7-Eleven store is coming to the corner of Veterans Memorial Highway and Harned Road in Commack. 

The Smithtown Town Board unanimously approved the site plan application Aug. 15. The plan includes to demolition of an existing 1,708-square-foot filling station and the construction of the proposed 2,250-square-foot retail building.

Police: Motorcyclist Seriously Injured by Drug-Impaired Driver
A motorcyclist was seriously injured on the eastbound side of the Long Island Expressway in Commack Monday when she was rear-ended by a drug-impaired driver, Suffolk County police said.

Commack Dad Battles Lung Cancer

Commack community members are coming together to support a local resident who has been fighting lung cancer for the past four years.

On Oct. 13, at Four Food Studio and Cocktail Salon in Melville, a fundraiser will be held to help Jeff Galluzzo, husband and father of two young children, and his family. Galluzzo, a 46-year-old non-smoker, has been fighting lung cancer for the past four years. He was diagnosed in the summer of 2010 while in training for a triathlon.
