Commack Schools Receive Very Strong Moody's Rating
Moody’s Investors Service, a credit-rating agency, issued an Aa2 rating to the Commack Union Free School District Monday.
The Aa2 rating reflects sound financial operations with a satisfactory reserve position.
The ratings play a critical role in determining how much interest the district has to pay on its issued debt. A new Suffolk County Police Department motor carrier inspection site, which opened on Crooked Hill Road in Commack Tuesday, was dedicated to SCPD Officer Glen Ciano, who was killed by a drunken driver in 2009.
Ciano was assisting a fellow officer when he was killed by a drunken driver in 2009.
During the dedication ceremony, two Commack Fire Department trucks hoisted a giant American flag over the site as the Suffolk county Police Department Emerald Society Pipe Band played to the crowd of legislators, police officers and the Ciano family.3 Arrested in Target Theft
A group of three men were arrested in Commack Aug. 21 after they allegedly stole more than $1,000 in electronic equipment from Target in Commack. Vincent Rago, of West Babylon and Thomas Werner and Jon Duffett, both from Bay Shore, were charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony.
West Nile Found in Commack
County health officials reported a West Nile virus sample was found in a mosquito at Blydenburgh Park in Smithtown recently, and have temporarily halted activities at the county park between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The sample was one of 17 found recently by the county on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21. And the park is no stranger to West Nile, having to close down early from positive West Nile samples over the past several summers. Another sample was found in Commack, officials said.
