Weekend Planner: What To Do For Mother's Day

Here are some ideas to help plan mom's special day.

In truth, the moms of the world deserve to be celebrated every day, but Mother's Day is the one day you cannot screw up. Fortunately, we've got a sure-fire list of things to do that will put a smile on her face.

The brunch at the is a Commack rite of passage, and there's no better time to enjoy it than Mother's Day, when mom can indulge in table after table of nearly every breakfast, lunch and dinner food imaginable, not to mention a made-to-order omelet station, fresh seafood, fruits and cheeses and of course, dessert.

Why buy mom a serving plate when you can make her one yourself? Paint A Piece is the perfect place to do just that, offering the ability to paint and decorate a variety of different types of pottery to create a one-of-a-kind gift.

If you're a three-star chef and play the saxophone in your spare time, your mother is in for a heck of a Mother's Day. For the rest of us, the Mother's Day jazz brunch at Latin Fusion restaurant Perfecto Mundo will pair a wide sampling of delicious foods with jazz music.

A day off from cooking, cleaning and the daily grind will certainly help mom relax, but a massage at  will make her feel like new again.

The problem: You have no idea what to buy mom. The solution: Take her to the Tanger Outlets at The Arches for a day of outdoor shopping she'll love, at reduced prices that won't break the bank.

Perfectly mixed margaritas? Unbelievably well-cooked tacos? Check. Guacamole made at your table? Check. If mom likes Mexican food, a reservation at  will put a smile on her face.

Too bad there is no dinner/dancing places to go to with Mom on Mother's Day...ya know, the Sinatra era music type setting! Commack needs some new places for sure - for young and old!

Hi Annie, My sister and her fiance absolutely love swing dancing, and they go to the Brush Barn in Smithtown any chance they get. I looked up their schedule, and they do have a swing dance on Saturday night (not Mother's Day, but you could definitely play it as an early present!). There is a swing lesson, and then they have a live band play. Here is the link if you are interested: http://www.sdli.org/index.php/sdli/events_archive/734/ ~Lyndsay

Lyndsay, that is a perfect idea! Glad your sister recommended it! If we make it there, I'll let you know how it was. Thanks for your help! :)
