Mystery Sign Poster Strikes Again

A new sign poking fun at Brookhaven's highway department has popped up on Christian Avenue in the Three Village area. This one appears near Sand Street and reads: "For Expert Tire Repairs Call Dan 451-9200." The phone number is for Brookhaven town's highway department facility on Old Town Road in Coram. Highway superintendent Dan Losquadro said in an interview Monday that he does not recall receiving any recent claims for tire or other vehicle damage that occurred on that street as a result of the road conditions.

Thirsty Thief Puts Man in Chokehold Over Gatorade

A Mastic man was arrested July 9 after he and a woman stole a case of Gatorade from 7-Eleven in Nesconset, and then put another man in a chokehold when he tried to stop them, police said.

Two nonprofits stepped in to help a Miller Place homeowner who gave up over 40 cats on and around her property, though work remains to be done before they can gather them all from the home.

Kent Animal Shelter is holding over a dozen kittens at their shelter after volunteers from the Calverton-based organization went to the home on Monday along with Rita Miszuk, of Sound Beach-based Volunteers for Animal Welfare.
