Where Are Commack's Most Ignored Stop Signs?

On Dovecote and Kevin!!!! 3 way stop sign (people only "stop" at 1 of them). They don't even roll through them ~ They speed and just keep driving. Very dangerous (I was hit from behind by somebody that didn't stop and it pushed me onto Townline Road. I was lucky no cars were coming.)

The corner of Harris Ct. and Washington Blvd......they breeze right through....
Very frustrating to watch, especially when there are children waiting at that corner for school buses.

Not Commack but close enough in East Northport - Verleye Avenue & Colonial Street - I usually drive down Colonial and have had many cars blow the stop sign in either direction on Verleye right in front of me or just a quick tap & go, even when I'm already stopped at my stop sign.

four way stop at Walter and Shirely!!!! 99 out of 100 don't even bother to stop!!!! Someone should do something before a person is killed!!!

So many of the stop signs are completely superfluous. The stop sign at the corner of Ruth and Terry, for example. Doesn't mean you can ignore them... but every single corner does not require a stop sign

The biggest offenders of running the stop signs are the people that live the closest to them. If the cops sat at the stop sign in your neighborhood waiting to write tags, you know who they would get? You and all your neighbors. Then, someone who "works for the county" would cry that they got a ticket, make a phone call and poof!!!! No more police at the stop sign in that area. Everyone in Commack "knows someone who knows someone". Cops don't want to be bothered getting BS phone calls from county offices after they do what the community wants them to do. So better off sticking to cell phone and seat belt summonses on Jericho Tpke and Commack Rd.

The corner of Dovecote and Vera. It is too much of an inconvience for those folks who are in such a hurry and use Dovecote to avoid Jericho to stop and care about the safety of the people in the neighborhood.

I grew up on Terry Lane. The stop sign is not superflous with unthoughtful drivers racing up and down Ruth Blvd. My Mother picketed at Ruth & Gehrig in the 70's for the first four way stop on Ruth. The Neighborhood Mothers picketed because a kid got seriously hit by a car racing up Ruth Blvd. A stop sign is there for a reason. It is telling you to slow down (opey the speed limit) and make a full stop . So Stop at Ruth and Terry and look at the woods (unfenced) that I used to play in. Commack is a residential community not a Nascar Racetrack Im alive at 54 because of those 4 way signs. Listen to our neighborhood mothers, Slow Down and save a life.

East Northport; any stop sign involving the Keday Drive loop. Especially at Crystal Lane and Ketay Drive North. Drivers treat the stop sign as an accelerate now sign. They don't slow down - they actually speed up at least 10 feet before the stop sign. And there are lots of young children playing in the area.

Marie Crescent in Commack! Most people don't even slow up at the signs. The street is a straight runway for too many!

Roxbury is the worst....teenagers cut through from the high school, and they just coast trough the stop signs while kids are at bus stops :(. They don't realize if they killed someone they would have to live with that guilt the rest of their lives.

There is a 4 way stop at Cornflower Lane and Meadowrue Lane in East Northport
( but this is Commack school district). There have been accidents here over the yrs. Kids driving to the Commack H.S. or parents driving their kids are always going through the stops there! Usually people are going quite fast too....it is a very unsafe corner. Meadowrue should have some speed bumps!!

I think it's funny that we all are complaining about people running stop signs and how unsafe that is but you all are the first ones to race through a parking lot at top speed to beat someone to a parking spot, to back up without looking, to make sudden turns with no directional and to assume you have the right of way all the time. Commackians all need a drivers ed refresher course!

I take driving very seriously. I take defensive driving every 4 years not only for the percentage but to keep myself sharp because rules have changed. I honestly think people who make comments like this need to look at their own driving skills before you come out with a statement like this. BTW, I grew up in Commack and its not the only place its happening .. its everywhere. Just keep yourself safe and keep your eyes open and hands (AND EARS) off the cellphone and everyone will be just fine.

Most people do not know how to do a 4 way stop sign, its in the same lines of parallel parking, just doesn't get reviewed enough.

Paul L - glad you are a careful driver. Doesn't mean we all couldn't benefit from reviewing the rules of the road once in awhile. Being careful is the first step but knowing that only the first car under a center turning light has the right to make the turn if they are sitting under it as it turns red and not the following three is only one example. You may know this but not everyone does!
Littleshamrock- lets not take this personally. As a 30 year commack resident, I've seen people get sloppier and sloppier with their road manners. You said "keep yourself safe" and "keeping eyes open" but that doesn't protect yourself from the driver next to you who doesn't care about you, only about getting to their destination. That's why I suggested defensive driving for all!
