Women have served in the U.S. military since 1775. They nursed the sick & wounded, laundered & mended clothing & cooked for the troops in camp on campaign, services that didn't exist among the uniformed personnel within the military until the 20th century. Women are an invaluable & essential part of the military - currently women serve in 91% of all Army operations and make up app. 14% of the Active Army.
This exhibit will include artwork, photographs and personal items from women who have served in the military. 'Women in Uniform,' an exhibit of paintings from the Navy Art Collection of the Naval History & Heritage Command will also be a part of this exhibit.
